Trying to beat the Boston Red Sox on the road has been enough of a challenge for the Baltimore Orioles over the years. Having to do it against Jon Lester has usually made it even tougher on the young club. Lester will attempt to keep his undefeated record against the Orioles intact when he takes the mound for the Red Sox in tonight's second test of a three- game series between the American League East teams at Fenway Park. In seven career starts versus Baltimore, Lester is 5-0 with a 2.93 earned run average. Two of those victories have come in the young southpaw's four outings against the Orioles in 2008. Lester has also been dominant on the Fenway Park mound this season, having amassed a stellar 7-1 mark along with a 2.93 ERA in his 13 home starts. The 24-year-old rebounded from an awful 2 1/3-inning stint at Toronto on August 23 with a sharp effort in Thursday's game against the rival New York Yankees. Lester allowed just one run and struck out eight Bronx Bombers in 6 2/3 innings, although he wound up with a no-decision in an eventual 3-2 Boston loss. ... Source: www.boxxet.com --- 41 days ago

Baltimore Orioles General Manager Andy McPhail and owner Peter Angelos need to catch up with the times. Within their own division, the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Devil Rays are staging a revolt against the established order. Baltimore is looking up at four well-built organizations that are ready to smack the little Orioles around [...] ...

Hey, since the posts have been getting increasingly depressing I thought I would take a different route and look back at the good times. I was thinking the other day about how at least this season at one point in time had me excited about the future (even the near future). A couple of moments that I remember fondly. Adam Jones' walk off in like the 15 game of the season against the White Sox, where it seemed like the team might actually be going somewhere because Trembley was managing them as if they were going to the playoffs The game against the Yankees in mid-July in which Huff hit a home run off of Rivera to take the lead and then Sherrill, after letting a guy on, striking out the side. 1. It is always nice to beat the Yankees, and 2. That was where I kind of thought Sherrill may be the real deal. Mora showing us that he wasn't going to die a slow painful baseball death by resurrecting himself in August. There weren't any specific ones that stuck out for Markakis or B-Bob, but that's why I am putting up the post, so I'd love to hear some of your moments from the season that was. ... This series is predicated on educated guesses, past history of the team/general manager, rumors that have been out there for a while, and actions that I feel could be taken. Markakis should get the biggest raise, as he is arb-eligible for the first time. No one knows what the Opening Day pitching staff will look like; Guthrie seems the only certainty in the rotation. To me, the best solution is to just let all the kids battle it out in spring training. No need to throw away $5MM+ on a veteran innings eater. An excepti ... Source: sportspyder.com --- 31 days ago
