From Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, and Domenico Montanaro*** A tie Ballgame: Major news organizations released three new national polls yesterday, and they all signaled the same thing: After the party conventions and VP picks, this presidential race is pretty much tied. The Washington Post/ABC poll had Obama up one point among registered voters (47%-46%). A CBS survey had McCain ahead by two (46%-44%). And CNN/Time had the race deadlocked at 48%-48%. Tonight, our NBC/WSJ poll -- generally considered the...( read more ) ... Source: www.moreover.com --- 2 days ago

I’ve been sick as a dog with an upper respiratory infection, so I was asleep when the Yankees were officially eliminated from the playoff race. Then I got up in the morning and felt sick all over again when I heard the news! What makes it all the more nauseating is that this team has finally started playing decent baseball this year. I’d like to think it’s because Joe Girardi finally took a stand with Robinson Cano. But my brother says that the real reason they’re playing well now is because the pressure is off. At any rate, the Yankees aren’t going to the playoffs this year. Brian Cashman should lose his job over this, but apparently won’t - the Steinbrenners have reportedly offered him a contract extension. Good grief. My only hope is that Cashman walks and decides to go elsewhere, the way Joe Torre did last year. Speaking of which, I was on the Sound Off With Sinkoff Show on Albany’s 104.5 The Team on Monday to talk about the final game at the Stadium. And I was asked what I thought about Roger Clemens and Joe Torre being omitted from the closing ceremonies. I noted that the Yankees honored Billy Martin as a second baseman, not a manager, in the opening ceremonies, even though they showed clips of him as a manager. And they honored Casey Stengel with the faux old Yankees hokefest at the beginning of the ceremony. Also, Joe Girardi was mentioned as a catcher, and not a manager. So they skipped the whole manager category entirel ... Source: www.macworld.com --- 40 days ago

T.J. Houshmandzadeh sat down in a humongous soft spot in the zone to catch the pass and then didn't get much resistance when he headed upfield for the end zone. That's a pretty easy 18-yard TD to trim the lead to four points. The Bengals should have scored on the previous play, when Chris Perry beat converted DE Greg Ellis badly, but Carson Palmer's pass was off target. Poor job scheming by the Cowboys. There were sprinkled boos from the Texas Stadium faithful, and it's tough to blame them. ... Source: www.kiplinger.com --- 31 days ago

Jim O'Brien kicked off the Indiana Pacers media day with those words during a press conference to discuss the upcoming season. Needless to say, he's quite happy with the positive changes Larry Bird and David Morway have made during the offseason. Here are some real quick notes, as the players will be available in a few minutes. Expects the team to be in the top five in scoring this year, but the team must own responsibility for the defense improving which can make the Pacers a playoff team. Yes, he expects the team to make the playoffs and said he wouldn't coach this season if he didn't. Speaking of defense, JOB offered some details on changes he plans to implement. For instance, they will no longer "blitz" the side pick and roll. Instead the bigs will stay closer to home in the lane and hopefully limit the 5.8 foul disparity from last year. Loves Roy Hibbert but admits that he wants to block every shot right now and is easily faked into jumping. That will make it hard to avoid foul trouble. JOB expects Danny Granger to lead the team defensively as he expands his leadership role on the team. Also, talked about the production of Granger and Dunleavy and mentioned that they can improve by averaging 18 points per game for a playoff team instead of a mediocre, non-playoff team. JOB doesn't know how the center position will evolve but he expects it to shake out in camp with a daily war. He wouldn't mind seeing lips cut, noses bloodied ...
