British Airways (BA) has announced that it is to buy French airline L'Avion. Once the sale has been completed, L'Avion will become part of British Airways' subsidiary airline, OpenSkies. BA has paid £54m (€68m) for L'Avion. L'Avion is a privately owned airline that operates two Boeing 757s between Paris Orly and New York 's Newark airport. It is expected that the sale will be completed later in July, when L'Avion will become part of OpenSkies. BA's Willie Walsh said: "L'Avion is a successful airline that has built up a premium business between Orly and New York in a relatively short time. It has many synergies with OpenSkies and buying it provides OpenSkies with a larger schedule and established customer base in the Paris-New York market." Co-founder and chairman of L'Avion, Christophe Bejach, said that the airline was happy to merge its operations with BA's OpenSkies. Bejach explained that it would allow the combined airline to grow faster and stronger, and that both L'Avion's staff and customers would benefit from the deal with BA. OpenSkies began services on June 19th this year, flying daily between Paris Orly and New York JFK. When L'Avion is incorporated into its services, up to three flights per day will be offered between Paris Orly and New York JFK and Newark.
