I'm not sure how rare that is, but Sean Avery pulled it off. He received one game misconduct penalty for participating in a ``second altercation,'' a fight which was begun after an original fight on the ice. Avery and Dan Hamhuis were in a brawl by the bench after a fight broke out by the net. That is an automatic call per penalty 47.7. The second game misconduct was for arguing the call with the ref. Under Rule 40.5 (I) a game misconduct penalty can be given to: ``Any player or goaltender who, after being assessed a misconduct penalty, persists in challenging or disputing the ruling of an official.'' I believe Avery received a misconduct first (that's what was announced in the building) and then kept pushing until it became a game misconduct. Now, the reason this is important is because the NHL gives you two game misconducts as a cushion throughout the season. When you get your third, you get an automatic one-game suspension. Then, for every game misconduct you get after that, there is a subsequent suspension. So, Avery has used up his cushion in two games. I wonder if that will make him be a little more careful when he is out there. ...

Whether it was planned or not, the message sent by the visit was simple: Not everyone hates Avery Johnson's guts. Cuban laid the Maverick's troubles last season squarely on Johnson earlier in the week, before taking some of the blame himself.
