Jump to the full entry & travel map Albany, Western Australia, Australia Albany hit the National News overnight with a massive bushfire caused it seems by a bike accident where the bike slide off the road and caught fire. Houses were threatened but saved and a number of bikers were trapped out at Whale World and housed overnight but so well looked after that when the road was reopened none where in a safe state to ride their bikes the 20 k's back into town. Meanwhile last night we were back on door duty at the big marquee with Bill & Judy Booyse where eventually we got our steak dinner and listened to awards and presentations til 10-10.30 and just as the entertainment started we had had enough and went home and watched Midsomer Murders on our telly Yesterday of course was Grand Parade day and with no bike we were relagated to watching from the main drag York St with video and still cameras. Walked down to the foreshore park to listen to the speeches and than at 12 I went to the actual AGM meeting, 2 out of 3 of my preferred candidates got in and generally the meeting went off with no dramas. Today Sunday has dawned overcast and then heavy rain which is not suiting the campers who are packing up but the firefighters are over the moon. Dave & Laurie Mead and mates from Wagga Alan & Jan Wells were lucky to mostly get packed and away before the rain really hit so they are now well on their way to Busselton. We went over to the showgroun ... Source: www.moreover.com --- 2 hours ago

Jump to the full entry & travel map Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Hello fello pod users and friends It is now less than a week until I leave my comfy home here for the ancient, wise old land of Germany. As a result I am now practically jumping up and down in excitement. I've packed, emptied and re-packed my suitcase and will most likely repeat this process several times before Friday night. the plane will be leaving at about 3 am so congrats to everyone nice enough to stay awake until 12:00 to see me through the terminal. This trip is going to be extra fun seeing as I will be travelling with friends from school my ever present sister and comrade in, well... life Laura (or Loz/Lozzy as she will be referred to from now on). Seeing as this is actually an exchange trip and thus unfortunately, not entirely a holiday, there are a few expectations about behaviour etc. 1. please at least try to learn some german 2. See as much as you can, this is an amazing opportunity 3. Smile, you are an 'ambassador' for Australia and your country will be judged by your behaviour. so I promise to smile, talk incessantly, and run around to every even slightly interesting thing in sight Hopefully once I leave I can provide you all with enough interesting bits and pieces to keep you reading, so now just for good measure I'll go and turn my suitcase upside down so I can re-pack it again, and in the meanwhile, I beg anyone reading to comment as much as possib ... Jump to the full entry & travel map Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Sydney and Beyond As you know by now, Paul and I do not do all that well in big cities. We usually get overwhelmed and antsy to move on. This has not been true for Sydney—we both really enjoyed it. Like so many Australian cities, Sydney has a rich foundation built on the backs of British convicts. In fact, we stayed in a boutique hotel in The Rocks region of the city, the original location of commerce and housing built, of course, by convicts. We had a view of the iconic Sydney Opera House from our room, so early the first day we had to get out and go see it up close. As many times as I have seen pictures of the structure, I was not prepared for the euphoric experience of walking up the steps to be greeted by its beauty. It is truly amazing with its billowing "sails." It was a time that I was more than OK with how long Paul wanted to spend taking pictures. I was content just to be there. We returned to the Opera House two more times, once for a run along the harbor front, and the second time to attend La Traviata. How could we be there and not go to the opera! Sydney sits on a very large harbor that encompasses over 150 miles of shoreline. There are boats and ferries coming and going all the time and in the evening the sailboats race up and down with their spinnakers filled like big balloons. If I were a sailor, I think I would want to live in Sydney (at least fo ... Source: twitter.com --- 4 hours ago
