Augustana College is planning to buy the Ronald McDonald House at 2001 S. Norton Ave. for a new theme house next year. Jim Bies, dean of students and vice president of student affairs, said the two-story house would have at least 16 students. The acquisition of the house also would help the college meet its goal of having 100 students in theme houses, he said. The building is available because Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Dakota recently opened a house at Avera McKennan, and another at Sanford USD Medical Center will open next July, executive director Marsha Frericks said. ... Maroon 5, the Counting Crows and opening act Augustana were in fine form Saturday night at Superpages.com Center. Maroon 5 played most of its hit songs, including "This Love," "Sunday Morning" and "Won't Go Home Without You." Girls in the crowd stood up and screamed as Adam Levine stayed true to form and performed the band's songs almost exactly as they sound on the radio. The screams of young girls were largely absent from the Counting Crows' performance, which was characterized by subdued fans who sat and watched Adam Duritz's artistic presentation of the group's songs. He made it clear he wasn't there to just sing; he was there to emotionally engage the audience in songs that hinted at deeper meanings than their lyrics might suggest. The group played some of its classics, such as "Long December" and "Mr. Jones," as well as some tunes from its newest album, "Saturday Nights & Sunday Evenings." The Peacock men's golf team completed their play in the Augustana Invitational on Monday afternoon. The Peacocks were one of six teams competing in the tournament hosted by Augustana College, one of the four new NSIC members. The tournament was played at Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls, S.D. The team carded a great second round on Monday as they put together a 292 for a two-day total of 596 which jumped them from fifth to third in the final standings. Augustana College , a United States college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, is using Drupal. According to Augustana's Web Editor the site was developed by Tim Broeker of Electric Jet (Mnpls) using Drupal 5. Electric Pulp , a local Sioux Falls company, also contributed to the project by doing the design and CSS work. I don't think I've ever met Tim Broeker, but what is interesting about this Drupal site developer is that he also has a Joomla! Core Team connection. Yes indeed, open source does matter. read more ...
