It's like waiting for a bus - it's all been quiet and then two Chanel film biopics come out at once (wish I could say it was the same as saving up for your first Chanel bag, but sadly it isn't). As well as the Chanel & Stravinsky flick out this year, we also have the - possibly much more anticipated - Coco Avant Chanel release to look forward to. And if leading lady Audrey Tautou's appearance at the Paris premiere last night was anything to go by, it's going to be a very stylish affair. Love her angular floral frock and sandals. Yesterday we posted a behind the scenes sneak peek at Audrey Tautou's Chanel No. 5 video advertisement Directed by Jean Pierre Jeunet of "Amelie" and "A Very Long Engagement" fame. The spot has since been made available on the interwebs and retains all the cinematic charm we'd expect from a Jeunet feature crammed into a whimsical one minute ad that does the unthinkable and makes us love Tautou even more. It has also been reported that Tautou was paid in the vicinity of $4.3 million for her services which to us common folk worker bee suckers would seems like an exorbitant amount. That is of course, until you compare it to the $12 million Nicole Kidman was reportedly paid five years prior. Who's the sucker now Audrey? Who's the sucker now. (Note: We're actually crying on the inside and can't even imagine what $4.3 million would look like). ...

Het is steevast het hoogtepunt op vervelende cocktailfeestjes - ja, het leven van een filmblogger zit vol glitter and glamour. Volgt u even mee? Er wordt gezellig gekeuveld, gulzig van de champagne genipt en stilaan verschuift de conversatie zich naar films. De kunst bestaat er dan in om op zeer geniepige wijze de Franse cinema ten berde te brengen. En eens dat lukt heb je gegarandeerd prijs. Binnen de 10 seconden begint er iemand zijn liefde voor Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001) te bezingen. Het instemmend geknik dat daarop volgt, gaat dan zeer snel over in een opsomming van de mooiste en meest ontroerende momenten. En te midden van deze luid klinkende lofzang plant ik een botte bijl in het pseudo-cinefiele geneuzel door te zeggen dat ik Amélie Poulain zwaar overroepen vind. Op zo'n moment besef je pas wat er allemaal te lezen valt op de gezichten van mensen en hoe belangrijk lichaamstaal wel is. U mag het gerust zelf eens proberen, het is ab-so-luut de moeite waard. In the midst of battling Coco Chanel biopics, the first image of Audrey Tautou ( Amelie ) as the legendary fashion figure has just emerged over at Vanity Fair . I'll admit that after getting my first look at Tautou in that famous 'Coco recline', it is starting to make perfect sense that an entire biopic was shaped around the French actress. If nothing else, you have to admit the the lady is a dead ringer for the style icon. Coco Avant Chanel was partly based on Edmonde Charles-Roux's book, L'Irrégulière: Ou, Mon Itinéraire Chanel , and was adapted for the screen by Christopher Hampton ( Dangerous Liaisons ) and Anne Fontaine , who is also directing. The film will not attempt to tell the entire life story of Chanel, probably because it would be impossible to contain that much fabulousness in one film. Instead, Fontaine will be focusing on some of the highlights of Chanel's youth, and what would any biopic be without a little dirt? Some of the juicier bits in the story will include Chanel's time as a cabaret singer, and her love affairs with the influential and powerful men that helped her break into the fashion world. After a long delay, the project finally kicked into high gear last summer, and shooting began back in September. Now that Tautou is officially the first Chanel we have seen, you can't help but wonder if the rest are going to suffer by comparison -- I mean, I still haven't gotten my head around the casting of Demi Moor ...
