I bought my MBP less than a year ago and Ive started to notice patches of several dead pixels on the lower right of my screen. There is a patch of about 20 fully lit white pixels and another line of about 15 white pixels. They dont seem dead because I always though dead pixels were completely dim. I keep my MBP in perfect condition and have never dropped it our slammed the display closed. Will Apple replace the screen (or MBP)? I have AppleCare. Thanks ...

I recently bought a brand new AppleCare warranty for my 3 month old MBP, but I haven't activated it yet. If I were to activate it on my computer, and then say next week or even next month I spilled water or dropped the computer, would I be able to get a refund on the AppleCare? Otherwise, I might just wait until the last day possible to activate, just in case. ...

The serial number of the machine is W88110GQYP3 and the warranty expires on May 15, 2011 The machine is stock specs except for the 4gb of memory upgrade. It has the matte screen (anti-glare). It is brand new. You can reach me on my cell at 732-991-1467. I would like to only sell locally, I live in Central NJ. I can meet you at a local public place. Asking price is $2650, but I am willing to entertain all resonable offers. Cost direct from apple is $2799 + $200 for the memory upgrade + $349 for the extended warranty = $3348 Thanks, David Cappell ...

Hello class, today we're going to talk about data backup. Data backup is an important part of a well-rounded computer user's regimen, and we all know why. What some of us might not know, is that it is always, always important to back up all remotely important data before you ship your Mac off to AppleCare for whatever reason. This is because more often than not, AppleCare will format your hard drive, often without any warning, even if your original problem had nothing at all to do with hard drive or operating system issues. Take the case of my room mate last semester. She's far from a computer geek, but I'd say she possesses the tech savvyness of a typical 20-something college student. That is to say, when her 12" iBook's power adapter started acting up, and a replacement one didn't solve the issue, she shipped her Mac off to AppleCare without even thinking about backing up her data. After all, it wasn't a hard drive issue, it was a power issue. Plus, the Apple Care rep didn't mention anything about backing up data. And really, even if Apple did have to resort to the drastic measure of wiping her entire hard drive clean, they'd at least give her a call and let her know what was up; maybe give her an option to save her data or what not, right? Wrong. She received her iBook a few days later, as good as new. Literally. She booted up, and was greeted with a freshly installed OS X asking for all her basic information. All her photos fr ...

Now that the iPhone just recently turned one year old, you may want to think about buying AppleCare for your current iPhone if you plan on keeping it. You are still eligible to buy AppleCare if your iPhone is under a year old. ...

Every time I buy a new Mac laptop, I question whether I should purchase AppleCare to extend the warranty from one year to three years. My MacBook Pro cost $2,800 (with tax and shipping) in November 2006, so laying out another $300 for AppleCare - well, frankly, it hurt. (For more on the purchase, and how it stacked up to previous PowerBooks I've owned, see " More Bang, Less Bucks for my MacBook Pro " 2006-11-20.) However, I've found that almost every laptop I've owned has needed some sort of after-warranty work done, so I've ordered AppleCare for every one. True to my history, AppleCare has come through on this laptop, too. Recently I'd noticed that the battery (the original one that came with the computer) was delivering only about an hour of performance per charge. That seemed low even under constant use, and after reading a post on MacUser about a similar issue I resolved to call Apple. First, of course, I prepared for the call. I jotted down the battery's serial number (so I wouldn't have to extricate the battery from the computer while I was on the call). I had previously reset the laptop's System Management Controller (SMC) while troubleshooting the low charge, and run the latest version of coconutBattery , a freeware (donations encouraged) application that pulls status information from your battery; it informed me that the battery's current capacity was less than half of the original capacity. I also do my best to discharg ...

Hi all, Just a brief story of why AppleCare is so worth it! I have a Power Mac G5 that will be 3 years old in November, purchased AppleCare at the time. A few months ago, I started experiencing odd red ghosting on my Rt monitor intermittently It was workable but really annoying. Really no rhyme or reason for it. I did the basic stuff, switching the monitor cables and monitors, (the issue followed the problem side of the video card) changed out cables, no help. Ran diagnostics on the ram, no luck. Finally called AppleCare. Tech was out in one day and replaced the video card, next day problem is back. Two days the tech is out and replaces the mother board. Back again, within 24 hours, replaced the ram. Things were ok for a month or like I said, it was an intermittent problem, but alas came back. Called AppleCare this Monday, and behold... I have a brand new replacement 2.8 - 8 core Mac Pro with 8 gb of ram, 2 500 GB drives and the 8800 GT on its way... no charge! Have 30 days to send them back the G5. It has been an example of how good service should be! Thanks Apple! ...

Well, I just had my first encounter with Apple customer support, and I have to say I’m impressed. After my hard drive failure a few weeks back, I had to put my iPod Touch apps back on the system, which I had luckily backed up. Well, last night I had some issues with the Touch, so [...] ...

Helo evribadi! Just a quick question. I'm thinking of buying a Macbook Pro in about a month from Apple here in Sweden. I just bought .mac from eBay and everything worked out great with activation and whatnot and my question is if you can do the same with AppleCare as they're activated the same way (?), or do I need to purchase it from a swedish reseller to avoid trouble? Seeing as AppleCare costs $349 (I've even found them for $265 on eBay) in the US and about $700 (4200 SEK) here in Sweden, I'd love to do some big savings. Thanks for any advice and wish me luck with my first mac -Kjell ...

A little while ago, I wrote up here on StarterTech about Are Extended Warranties Worth It. In general I think they aren’t but AppleCare is changing my mind.
