... Source: www.download.com --- 5 days ago

already installed and going to see how it goes. Thanks to you all for your awesome tips and help, and Spirit, thank you as well. I went to that forum and from there decided (after looking recommended sites from Flashorn and MPHEnterprises) to give Avast and Online Armour a try. Avast seems real good, just about as good as any paid, it also has a rootkit among other things. Online free seems adequate, see how it goes. I just saw my notifier pop up with my key to Avast, so it's good for 14 months. Along with other software I have, Advanced Windows Care, and a paid sub. to Tuneup Utilities 2008 (have had that since 2006) I think this all should take care of this lap ok. Also have spywareblaster going and use adaware plus, runs out in Sept. I think, sometime fairly soon anyway. Going to go with the free one on that too when it comes time. So, anyhow, thanks for your help, it doesn't get any better anywhere! While I think of it, why, why, when you download something, it says a certain amount of MB....lets say it's says 10 MB associated with it, then you download it and go to the control panel and it says 40 MB! Happens every time. I think Avast said something like 11 MB, in CP it's 58 MB! Geesh! PS MPH, this was a good time to start a new discussion...! Message was edited by: whatup2008 ... OK, this should prove to be interesting. My wife came to me complaining that there was a "virus thingy" (her words) on her computer. She is running Xp Pro, NOT Vista. However, apparently one of the sites she frequents for her games has downloaded this pita program. I could not find it in "add/remove programs, but shows up in the control panel. It also shows up under "programs" as VAV. I can delete all but the vav.exe from the computer. I have even removed reference to it in the registry. But, I can't delete the vav.exe so far. It keeps popping up every 5 minutes or so wanting her to register it or continue unregistered, and of course, getting the reminder to "register". Anyone have any ideas how to get rid of this? ... Paris-based computer security firm Intego said late last week it had released the first Antivirus software for Apple's iPhone handset. The company said the latest version of its Virus Barrier X5 10.5.3 Antivirus package for Mac OS X, released last week, was also able to scan the iPhone for viruses. The Antivirus software runs from a user's Mac, not from the iPhone itself, and checks for viruses on the iPhone when the handset is plugged into a user's Mac. Files stored on the iPhone are copied to the Mac for a security check. Intego claimed that because Apple was allowing third-party developers to create applications for the iPhone by using Apple's Software Developers Kit (SDK), there was a risk of installing applications that could harm these devices, or take control of them. ...
