Vinny DiMase sat inside his antiques store Monday afternoon, surveying the rows of boxes. Most of the cartons were marked $10 or $20 and had a random assortment of items, like a grab bag. The boxes are piled high and some furniture is out on the sidewalk because after about eight years, DiMase is closing up Vinny’s Antiques, located at 14 Main St.  DiMase said he’s closing up the store because it simply makes economic sense. Business hasn’t been good lately, said DiMase, pointing to the faltering economy. With money going to the increasing costs of gas, mortgages and food, less and less is available to spend freely on goods such as antiques and collectibles. DiMase collects most of his store’s stock from prowling estate sales, which have also become less and less frequent, he said. And his customer base is slowly going away anyway, said DiMase. Older people, who are traditionally the biggest buyers of antiques, are dying off or moving away. Younger consumers are more into electronics and less into antiques, said DiMase. Spurring his move to close was the purchase of the building by developer James MacDonald, who is currently building an apartment building on the corner of Waltham and Parker streets. It’s unclear what MacDonald plans to do with the building, but DiMase said the timing of the purchase, combined with the economy slowdown, marked it as time to go. “Maynard’s changing,” said DiMase.  The future of the downtown, known for it ...
