Kristin Chenoweth is not "a pie person." "I love chocolate cake. I never met a cookie I didn't like," explained the famously tiny actress, who's only being asked about dessert because she's on the Warner Bros. set of ABC's "Pushing Daisies," perched on a chair just outside a giant pie. That would be The Pie Hole, the restaurant where Chenoweth's character, Olive Snook, works as a waitress and nurses a secret yen for Ned (Lee Pace), a pie maker who's not so secretly in love with a girl named Chuck (Anna Friel). All three will be back on ABC Oct. 1, when "Daisies," having survived the writers strike, returns with its first original episode in nearly 10 months. The facts are these: Last season, amidst speculation that it would be a booming year for genre television, all but a few shows succumbed to network politics and were promptly cast aside. One show, however, continued to provide endless Burtonesque entertainment and survived not only a cull of the new season but also industrial action from the Writers' Guild. The facts were these... "Pushing Daisies" is effortless enchanting. The smallest act of kindness in the hands of the insanely talented Lee Pace and Anna Friel could be mistaken for Shah Jahan erecting the Taj Mahal. Although watching Ned strip down to his boxers to help bring Chuck's beloved bees back to life was decidedly hotter. With most shows I can always pinpoint one weak link in the cast -- Olivia still hasn't won me over on "Fringe," Lisa is fully useless on "Dirty Sexy Money" and I leave the room whenever Vanessa shows up on "Gossip Girl" -- but every actor is essential to the success of this show. I am extremely nervous for next week's clearly clown centric installment -- if only I were rich enough to have someone go through the episode and edit out all the red noses and knife-hiding floppy shoes. I am also not excited by the news that in an upcoming episode we learn, and see, how Ned and Chuck get frisky. "There's bedtime contraptions," says creator Bryan Fuller. "I think episode eight is when you see the device." Jeepers! Device? I saw "Burn After Reading," I know how that works. Seeing as this show has never disappointed me in the past I will remain hopefully optimistic. As long as I can leapfrog the clowns next week. Little known fact about TV star Lee Pace : His after school job in high school was working at Gallup Poll, doing surveys for Citibank. He made so many phone calls during his time there that if you tell him an area code, he'll know what city it belongs to. While that's quite the talent, it probably doesn't compare to bringing people back from the dead, right? In the fantastical, hit ABC dramedy, Pushing Daisies , Lee, 29, stars as the endearing Ned, a pie maker whose touch can magically bring life to the dead. Of course, it's not that simple—if Ned touches that person a second time, they will be dead forever. That brings us to Ned's current predicament. He brought his childhood sweetheart, Chuck ( Anna Friel ), back to life, and to keep her alive, he can never touch her again.
