by Walter Brasch A Pennsylvania district attorney took campaign funds from an organization which promotes killing live pigeons in contests, and then refused to allow the prosecution of Animal Cruelty charges against a gun club that hosts pigeon shooting contests. DA John T. Adams of Berks County accepted $500 campaign contributions from the Flyers Victory Fund in August 2008 and August 2009, according to campaign finance reports issued by both the Pennsylvania Department of State and the Berks County Registrar of Voters. Johnna Seeton, a certified humane society police officer for the Pennsylvania Legislative Animal Network (PLAN), says she documented what she believed were acts of Animal Cruelty at a pigeon shoot on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, sponsored by the Pike Township Sportsman’s Association near Oley, about 55 miles northwest of Philadelphia. Seeton had gone to the shoot, but had to watch the killings from public roads and driveways of nearby residents who had given her permission. Typically, at a pigeon shoot, one bird is confined to a small box about 25–30 yards in front of the firing line. The birds are released from the spring-loaded boxes known as “traps,” and the shooter fires at five separately released birds in five separate rounds, as if firing at clay pigeons in a trap or skeet shoot. Each shooter tries to kill a total of 25 birds, each falling within a designated circle, for a perfect score. The birds, when first relea ... Source: dandelionsalad.wordpress.com --- 15 hours ago

This guy sounds like a real jerk. He didn't know how his horses were being treated on his own farm? Come on, that's a Michael Vick defense that didn't work with him either. Plus, this is the guy's BUSINESS. And he didn't know? Yeah, right. From the Associated Press... Prominent New York thoroughbred breeder and owner Ernie Paragallo was convicted Wednesday of mistreating dozens of malnourished horses on his Hudson Valley farm. A judge convicted Paragallo of 33 of 34 misdemeanor Animal Cruelty counts in a nonjury trial in Greene County. The 52-year-old Long Island resident was charged after state police and Animal welfare investigators raided his farm in Coxsackie in April and seized 177 malnourished horses. He could face up to two years in jail and $33,000 in fines, $1,000 for each count. Most of the horses were eventually adopted by other horse farms around the nation, but several were in such poor shape they had to be euthanized. Paragallo, who testified last week that he didn't know the horses on his farm weren't being fed enough, had no comment as he left court. ... Source: www.geekfest.com --- 1 day ago
How many of you know that the only certified Animal Cruelty investigator around here get NOTHING, not even gas money, to check on Cruelty/neglect/abandonment calls, many of which she receives from the sheriff's department? She works full time and still finds some time to check on these dogs and horses. This person is Linda Renoe. She is having to back off of some of these calls because of lack of money. Friday night I went with her to check on some dogs that had been abandoned and to take a neighbor some food to feed them until they can get in to the shelter or a rescue (she paid for the food herself). I went along because the owners that left the dogs also left a pg cat, and that is where I come in, although I do help with dogs when I can. She gave up her Saturday so we could go out to H.I., where another owner had abandoned her two cats and two dogs. She worked with the only dog we could find until we could get him in a carrier and transport him to the shelter. I, meanwhile, trapped the cats so they could go also. Linda works with a rescue called Radar's Rescue. We both are concerned as to how long we can keep going on our own. If you can find it in your heart to help, Linda has an account at Family Pet Vet in Berryville. Unbeknownst to many, there is NO county help for any of the rescues and NO county help for the shelter.
