The Detroit Red Wings signed defenseman Brad Stuart to a four-year contract and goalie Ty Conklin to a 1-year deal on Tuesday. No other contract terms were released. The Red Wings obtained the 28-year-old Stuart from the Los Angeles Kings at the trade deadline last season in exchange for Detroit’s second-round draft pick in 2008 and its fourth-round pick in 2009. Stuart had one goal and one assist in nine regular season games, missed eight games with a broken finger, then returned in time for the playoffs and scored a goal and had six assists in 21 games for the Stanley Cup champions. The San Jose Sharks took Stuart third overall in the 1998 NHL draft. He also has played for the Boston Bruins and Calgary Flames. Conklin, 32, was 18-8-5 with a 2.51 goals-against average in 33 games last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins, whom Detroit defeated in six games to win the Cup. The Edmonton Oilers signed him as a free agent in 2001 and he also has played for the Columbus Blue Jackets and Buffalo Sabres. Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom had his day with the Stanley Cup on Friday, and he let his cousin use it as a baptismal font for a christening. Holmstrom suggested the idea to his cousin, Robert Sundstrom, who baptized his 7-week-old daughter, Alva Felicia, during a private ceremony outside Holmstrom’s hometown of Pitea in northern Sweden. “Tomas came up with the idea when we were sitting in his summer cabin kitchen a week ago,” Sundstrom said. “Me and my wife thought it would be fun to christen our daughter in such a priceless object.” The only outsiders at the ceremony were the two security guards who travel with the trophy. Each member of the Red Wings gets to spend a day with the trophy. The Stanley Cup next will head to Vasteras, Nicklas Lidstrom’s hometown.
