I talked a bit about The Oranges just the other day — that’s the indie that will put Hugh Laurie back on the big screen in a May-September romance with Leighton Meester . When I mentioned the film last week Catherine Keener was noted as being in the mix as the mother of Meester’s character. Now we’ve got a couple more names, and the cast as a whole is staring to look pretty good. THR has news on the new cast members, among whom are Alia Shawkat , Adam Brody and Allison Janney . As I mentioned before, the film is basically about an older guy (Laurie) who starts dating a much younger woman (Meester) that is the daughter of a family friend. The whole situation, as the trade says “turns their lives, and the lives of their families, upside down.” Brody will be the son of Laurie’s character, and we’ll get to watch him squirm as he falls for Meester, only to discover that she’s dating his dad. Shawkat will be Brody’s sister, who is thinking of moving out of their house and presumably isn’t psyched about her dad dating someone roughly her own age. Last week, it seemed like Keener would be the family friend, but now she’s apparently going to play mom to Brody and Shawkat. Allison Janney will be the ‘family friend’ and mother of Meester instead. Just after word got out that "House" star Hugh Laurie could make the dark comedy his much-anticipated first lead role in a film, The Hollywood Reporter announces that a slew of top-notch actors are interested in joining him. Adam Brody, Alia Shawkat, Catherine Keener and Allison Janney are all in negotiations to sign onto TV director Julian Farino’s debut in the features department. The script by Ian Helfer and Jay Reiss, which you may remember as the piece holding the #2 spot on the 2008 black list, has Laurie starring as man who gets romantic with the daughter of a family friend. That young lady was speculated to be played by either Leighton Meester or Mila Kunis, but according to the THR report, Meester has won out. The unconventional relationship causes family drama, particularly with Laurie’s character’s son (Brody), who falls for Meester as well. Keener will play Mrs. Laurie and Shawkat their second child who’s considering moving out of the family abode. Janney would play Meester’s mom. Yes, this sounds like one heck of a dysfunctional family, but at least it’s a well-cast one. “House” fans are aching to see Laurie headline a film. And who better to pair him with than the quintessential mom, Keener? As for the kiddies, it’s difficult to move past Meester playing "Gossip Girl"'s Blair Waldorf, but the fact that she can go from conniving enemy to Serena’ ...

It’s shaping up to be a busy winter for Allison Janney . The Emmy-winning "West Wing" alumna, who recently booked a co-starring role opposite Matthew Perry on ABC's comedy pilot "Mr. Sunshine" and a pivotal recurring role opposite William H. Macy on Showtime’s drama pilot "Shameless," is set to guest star on USA Network’s drama series " In Plain Sight ." In a two-episode stint, she will play a newly-appointed U.S. Marshal for the district who heads with Mary (Mary McCormack). Also set to guest star on the upcoming third season of "In Plain Sight," which kicks off March 31, are Rita Moreno, Steven Weber, Tess Harper and Josh Cooke. Moreno will play Raph’s (Cristian de la Fuente) aunt Rita who takes the town by storm, helping Mary and Raph plan their wedding. In two episodes, Weber will play a brilliant and charming FBI agent who has different point of view on the handling of federal witnesses. Harper will appear as a take-no-prisoners Federal Prosecutor who thinks a win in court is the most important thing - despite the personal costs to a witness.
