Band: Hollywood Undead Album: Swan Song Release Date: 1/9/08 Techy's Rating: 9/10 Techy's Caption Review: Eminem and AFI's bastard love children Hollywood Undead have had this Album 3 years in the making, and did not let up for a second. From the get to you can tell this Album is going to be special. The opening track 'Undead' just hits you in the ears and lets you know whats up. The origonalality on this Album is somewhat lacking, borrowing... ...

Artist: Metallica Album: Death Magnetic Review: In the Eighties, thrash metal wasn't a scene, it was an arms race: riffs kept speeding up, drum kits got bigger. But with 1991's Black Album, Metallica opted for unilateral disarmament, slowing their tempos, shortening their songs and smelting their chugging guitars and piston-powered drums into armor-plated pop hooks. After that, the band rushed from one reinvention to another, starting with the... ...

Artist: Tricky Album: Knowle West Boy Review: 2008 is shaping up as the Year Bristol Bounced Back. Earlier this year, the city's trip-hop lords Portishead released the superb Album Third. Now comes the first record in five years from Tricky, who helped codify the foreboding Bristol sound along with Portishead and Massive Attack in the mid-Nineties. Tricky's hometown is much on his mind: The Album title refers to the hardscrabble hood where he... ...

Artist: Ne-Yo Album: Year of the Gentleman Review: There's a difference between a ladies' man and a man who loves women, and Ne-Yo reps for the latter. The 28-year-old singer-songwriter says his latest collection of heartfelt love songs is a tribute to the Rat Pack's pressed-suit style, but it's actually a superb concept Album about what a great boyfriend he can be — call it Songs in the Key of Nice. Having already penned lady-power hits for... ...

“I'm your desire, I'm your supplier,” Donnie seductively coos as he attempts to channel his inner Prince on the vocally mediocre debut single, “Take You There” off his Album Just a Rolling Stone . The performance is interesting, considering that Diddy swears up and down he picks artists on vocal merit.   Even Diddy's featured rap shows his world is nowhere near any world where records or MP3's are purchased. In the long run, this might be a problem for over indulgent new comers to the music business by way of a reality show.   “Take You There” is perfect for the drunk Aubrey O'Day types still dancing at the end of the night and Just A Rolling Stone is packed with music for those drunken girls that Donnie might be tempting to panty drop. Take “Dr. Love” – besides the repetitious “I’m Dr. Love” and semi-contagious beat – it’s got nothing. It sounds like a B-Side from the O-Town recording sessions where Donnie nasally prescribes, “take a dose of me and I’ll see you in the morning.”   There are a few shining moments – they have no hint of originality, but they’re shining moments nonetheless. “My Idol” has him channeling Chris Brown, “Pretty Girls Cry” guided by Ryan Leslie pushes Donnie to hit notes that challenge his register, and “Hollywood Girl” shows the vulnerable side of this Bad Boy with the help of Danja. On the other hand, tracks like “Hurt That Body” invoke a cheesy boy-band doing Hip-Hop moves on stage while they rub their a ...

Her decade-long career has been filled with film flops, failed romances and albums that vainly grasp for Christina's range and Britney's sex appeal (see "Irresistible," her homage to Spears' vinyl pants).   Ever since they dropped the classic "Cold Vein," underground hip-hop heads have been clamoring for another Cannibal Ox record. The dystopian paranoid rusted-robot vibe that producer El-P cooked up paired perfectly with the cadenced, abstract poetics of the group’s two MCs. And while one of those MCs, Vast Aire, wowed with his battle-rap punchlines and clever rhymes, the other, Vordul Mega, killed with quiet. His understated verses were chock full of allegorical imagery and exhibited a special knack for finding just the right twist on a familiar turn of phrase. Mega’s first solo effort, " Revolution of Yung Havoks," was a continuation of his dense dystopian poetry but was hampered a bit by a few too many plodding beats. His latest is, strictly speaking, a mix of old and new, with tracks that were recorded both before and after Can Ox’s debut as well as the "Yung Havoks" disc, and it’s pretty clear: The first verse has several bars straight from Cold Vein’s title track. But where "Havoks" tended to drag a little, "Megagraphitti" has a soulful jolt in its lockstep bounce, a sort of " Cold Vein" lite: a lonely piano quickly morphs into a disjointed guitar loop – courtesy of Zach One, one of several underground producers that provide most of the music – for the opener “Stay Conscious,” and Zach brings the piano back for the title track. Wu-Tang producer Bronze Nazareth drops some ominous strings on “Trigganomics,” and the two tracks ...

The score for Hancock is a morsel of music goodness. It is filled with little quirks that stand out for the conscious listener. Hancock disappointed many movie critics, but this critic liked it and he enjoys the score even more. If it had not been for the quirks that Powell placed in the score, it could have been easily dull, but nay he included them and I am thankful, for it really gives an interesting listen, and over all, the score is fun... Plain unadulterated fun. ... Read the full Review ...

[Album: They All Have Two Faces] [Label: Small Town Records] In the lead-up to this, their 8-track mini-Album, Fei Comodo have been slavishly touring the length and breadth of the country with top calibre acts like Fightstar, Enter Shikari and InMe. So far, the response to their mix of roared screamo (with extra rampant guitar and melodic [...] ...

When I was first introduced to Lykke Li's EP, Little Bit , I was entranced in the sheer uniqueness of her voice and music. Lately, it seems as though too many artists follow a certain guideline to their genre. I'm not saying that these guidelines detract from those bands' talents, but it's just refreshing to hear something new. Sure people will compare Li's pretty pop vocals to Hanne Hukkelburg or El Perro Del Mar , but comparing will never quite do her music justice. ...
