Good morning to you! So last night I saw a screening of The Dark Knight, and I'm happy to report Heath Ledger's performance is just as crazy, creepy, funny and memorable as everyone says it is. His Joker is the... ...

Down at Comic-Con International, Paul Levitz told us about a major new print run for the "Watchmen" graphic novel and I see in a short item in the New York Times that it's still going gangbusters: The film trailer for “Watchmen” is proving to be a considerable boost to sales of the graphic novel the movie is based on. “As far as we can tell from our conversations with the book industry people, there has never been a trailer that did this,” said Paul Levitz , the president and publisher of DC Comics, which has printed 900,000 additional paperback copies of the novel since the trailer began running in mid-July. The book, about a conspiracy to discredit and murder a group of superheroes, was written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons , and has been on the best-seller lists of Amazon.com, USA Today and The Washington Post. Mr. Levitz said “Watchmen” would have a print run of more than a million copies this year. Last year it sold about 100,000. Zack Snyder says he will be happy if his movie is a "three-hour advertisement" for the graphic novel, and after visiting his Vancouver set (and seeing the same movie trailer that you've certainly seen by now) there's no doubt in my mind that the "300" director is intent on remaining absolutely faithful to the story that Moore wrote (and Dave Gibbons drew) more than 20 years ago. That has me wondering if Moore, who loathes Hollywood types after watching their mistreatment of his prin ...

"In Wells, God writes the human narrative, in Moore's version, it is humanity that ghostwrites its own story and credits it to God. The decision left to humanity is whether it will script its own history consciously, or allow the narrative to be shaped secretly by leaders and figures of authority..." As excitement continues to build for “Watchmen” (scheduled for release in March ’09) – the publisher just put an additional 300,00 copies in print following the release of the trailer and Comic-Con – get an inside glimpse inside the psychedelic worldview of one of the world’s most visionary and creative minds with THE MINDSCAPE OF Alan Moore. As Comic-Con 2008 set records for attendance this summer, much of the “buzz” centered on Zack Snyder’s eagerly anticipated, big screen adaptation of the Hugo Award-winning cult classic graphic novel “Watchmen,” authored by legendary comic book writer Alan Moore. Now, in the first and only documentary in which the heretofore reclusive, visionary and innovative Moore participates, his hugely-devoted fan base and the soon-to-be-indoctrinated can enter the mind of the world’s most famous comic book author, embarking on a fascinating and psychedelic journey through the life and career of the creator of “Watchmen,” “From Hell,” “League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,” “Constantine” and “V for Vendetta.” THE MINDSCAPE OF Alan Moore makes its DVD debut on September 30, only from The Disinformation Company. ...

Watchmen was the only thing anyone was talking about at Comic Con this year. Kevin Smith told the director of the film Zack Snyder at a standing room only panel,"The whole reason we ever had a Comic Con was that someone would make a Watchmen movie. I feel like after I see that I can die!" It's due to be released in March (3/6/09 to be exact...snort). Now, 20th Century Fox says it owns the rights but Warner Bros is the one making the film. A federal judge Gary A. Feess ruled that Fox may have a case. Let the litigation begin. As we reported from Comic Con , writer Alan Moore has taken his name off The Watchmen project. He's had a series of bad experiences in Hollywood with his other graphic novels being made into lukewarm films (i.e. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and V for Vendetta ). Now he'll have another seedy dark tale of epic proportions. Ahem. Now the NYTimes reports : According to Fox’s lawsuit, however, Warner, in acquiring rights through the producer Lawrence Gordon, failed to acquire certain rights already owned by Fox, including the right to distribute any picture made by Mr. Gordon’s company. The case, originally filed in February, echoes an earlier court fight that was resolved in 2005 when Warner agreed to pay the producer Robert B. Clark at least $17.5 million to settle claims that it had infringed his rights by making the "The Dukes of Hazzard" film with Johnny Knoxville. The settlement came after Judge Fee ...

Watchmen creator Alan Moore is notorious for not being involved in the big screen adaptations of his comic book properties. WRITER Alan Moore, whose award-winning graphic novel Watchmen is being turned into a movie by director Zack Snyder, has hit out at the film project and says most big-screen comicbook adaptations are "pointless." Moore, 54 - who lives in Northampton, England, and also wrote the original comicbooks behind movies V for Vendetta, From Hell, Constantine and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - believes Watchmen could never be successfully translated to film and says the comicbook was deliberately created to do what celluloid could never achieve. Asked by Entertainment Weekly if he was curious about what Watchmen director Zack Snyder was doing with his material, Moore said: "I would rather not know. He's supposed to be a very nice guy. He may very well be, but the thing is that he's also the person who made 300. "I've not seen any recent comicbook films, but I didn't particularly like the book 300. I had a lot of problems with it, and everything I heard or saw about the film tended to increase rather than reduce them: [that] it was racist, it was homophobic, and above all it was sublimely stupid. I know that that's not what people going in to see a film like 300 are thinking about but...I wasn't impressed with that. "I talked to [director] Terry Gilliam in the 80s, and he asked me how I would make Watchmen into a film. I said: 'Well actually, Terry, if anybody asked me, I would have said 'I wouldn't.' And I think that Terry [who aborted ...

Daniel Robert Epstein wrote in a 2006 newsarama article:I recently got the chance to talk with Heath Ledger at a press roundtable for the movie Candy. While on the hot seat I got the chance to grill Ledger about his upcoming role of The Joker in The Dark Knight.DRE: Have you read many Batman comics?HL: No and I think that's kind of helping me a little bit. I was never really a fan of comic books or comic book movies. I never despised them but I was never one to read them. I never sought out the films but I would sit down and enjoy them. So because of that I really feel that I'm not carrying much pressure.DRE: Have they given or asked you to read certain comics?HL: The Killing Joke was the one that was handed to me. I think it's going to be the beginning of The Joker. ...
