Its no secret the Warriors are in desperate need of backcourt relief after Monta Ellis's injury, evident of general manager Chris Mullin flying out to Chicago to view comeback hopeful, Shaun Livingston in a private workout session.   Across the states, the Indiana Pacers are also in need of a few materials, primarily three point shooting and an athletic power forward.   By taking these two requirements into account, I created this potential trade that both teams would easily benefit from.    I crunched the numbers and an Al for Jamaal trade wasn't exactly allowed by NBA measures. So to make the trade work, I threw in additional pieces to the trade to make the salaries intertwine.   The trade scenario resembles this:   Warriors send   Al Harrington                       Kosta Perovic                         Cash   To Indiana   For                      Jamaal Tinsley   Jeff Foster   Harrington averaged 13.6 PPG, 5.4 RPG, and 0.2 BPG, playing in all but one game for the Warriors last season.   Al came over along with Stephen Jackson in the infamous Mike Dunleavy, Troy Murphy deal that helped shape the Warriors franchise into the fast paced offense today.   Kosta Perovic the seldom used Croatian forward, averaged 1.4 PPG and 1.9 RPG in 7 games last season for the Warriors.   With the addition of Brandan Wright last season, rookie Anthony Randolph this season, and Chris Mullin forcing Don Nelson to play his younger core, Harrington has beco ...

Monta Ellis was the one piece that was going to come out and make all the Warriors fans forget about Baron Davis. In fact, he was Davis' replacement since he left for the Los Angeles Clippers and Steve Nash. Ellis has been sidelined with a severe high ankle sprain.  It is reported that it will be a minimum of three months before he can successfully return to the basketball court. Ellis received a big pay raise just a month ago. He went from making under $1 million a year to an average of $11 million a year over the next six years. This is one of the biggest pay raises in NBA history. The Warriors had good reason to give him such a raise. He was the first player under the age of 23 to have at least 20 ppg and shoot 50 percent from the field since Kevin Johnson in the 1988-89 season. Now, their only star at the beginning of the season is going to be Andris Biedrins, who will have a lot more trouble finding open looks without the high scoring of Ellis. This will now allow teams to play bigger lineups, working to combat the ability of Biedrins inside, along with players like Ronny Turiaf, Stephen Jackson, and Al Harrington. These players all possess great size to create matchup problems for opposing teams. Now they will miss out on Ellis, who was the piece that was going to make teams respect quickness and play a more balanced defense instead of bringing out their big guys to guard the likes of Jackson and Co. Ellis was selected in t ...

Golden St. is done with Baron going to the Clippers! Can father and son work something out? I know Cuban and Nellie won't do anything but I'm sure Nellie talks to his son. Harrington has 2 years $19.5 million left on his contract. He wanted out before the Baron opt out. Stack and Eddie match salary and this gives Golden St. tons of cap room next year. I have objected to Ron Artest before, but maybe this could work. This of course would only work if we signed Okafor, Brand or Smith, but then we could have jackson and artest share the 2-3 spots with artest defending the other teams best player and have monta as our point. Then Biedrins and the nw PF up front. financially, this could help us too, ron's contract is about 2 million less than Harrington's so we'd have 2million more to sign a power forward.  Also, I don't see Harrington pushing us over the edge this season and I artest clearly hates his team. Maybe if we take on artest for a year he will like it and want to come back and play hard for us. He has never really fit in on a team well, maybe he'll find that with us. Either way, this year is about shaping a new team, and we'll have more cap room now, and even more cap room at the end of the season. He only has one year left too. As the first head professional at Oakland Hills Country Club, it's interesting to note Walter Hagen's unique place in golf history on the dawn of the 90th PGA Championship at his host club. Hagen was the first player in professional golf to capture the British Open title and the PGA Championship in the same year - 1924. Only two other players since then have accomplished that arduous task, and it took 70 years to do it. Nick Price won the British Open and the PGA Championship in 1994 and Tiger Woods is the only golfer to have done it twice (2000 and 2006). Padraig Harrington, the reigning British Open champ, will attempt to become just the fourth golfer to have won the British and PGA tournaments in the same year this week at challenging Oakland Hills. Hagen, who was ranked as the seventh greatest golfer of all time by Golf Digest magazine, was a key driving force in the development of professional golf. Born in Rochester, New York, Hagen went on the earn 52 professional victories. He won 11 Major championships, including two U.S. Opens, four British Opens and five PGA titles. His best Masters performance was a tie for 11th in 1936. Hagen served as head pro at Oakland Hills from 1916 to 1919 and was the first of just eight golfers who succeeded him at that position. He was followed by Mike Brady, Ernie Ford, Al Watrous, Mike Souchak, Leo Conroy, Al Mengert and current head pro Pat Croswell. Hagen, who was awarded a spot in the Wor ...

by Ryne Nelson Monta Ellis, Andris Biedrins, Corey Maggette, Al Harrington. Stephen Jackson knows he’s making less money than these guys, and decided it was time to make a business move of his own. Jackson told Marcus Thompson II of the Contra Costa Times he won’t be happy without an extension. “It’s definitely something that has to be addressed because of what I do for this team and what I’ve done since I’ve been here, bringing this team from one of the bottom teams in the league to a playoff team, to a team that won 49 games. It’s not what I want, it’s what I deserve. “… I won’t be comfortable going into this season knowing I have to play this whole season being the fifth highest-paid and not get an extension. I would not be happy.” Jackson still has two years and $14.89 million left on his contract. At 30, Jackson is unlikely to receive the extension he wants and is vastly undervalued on the trade market (few teams would consider a Jack who’s looking for a big extension). Plus, in two years, Jackson may not fit well with the Warriors’ young core of Ellis, Biedrins, Brandon Wright and Anthony Randolph. So the question remains: Will we see a ‘bad Jack’ next season or Jackson the Professional, who’s out to prove he’s worthy of a big extension? ...

The Power Forward position is the most debatable position with the Warrior's starting lineup. Many say that if we had a PF that fit our needs, we would have gone much further in the playoffs two years ago and make us more formidable this season with the development of our rookies. Al Harrington, arguably, has been the best PF we've had since Antawn Jameson's departure yet still he is criticized for not being adequate enough in our system. Through the draft and off season trades, we've acquired players that many of us believe could replace Harrington as starting PF and reduce Al to either a sixth-man/bench player or even expendable for trade. If you were Don Nelson, who would you select as your starting PF? 1) Al Harrington - He can spread the floor, rebounds like a small forward, streaky and shaky in the post. He has reached his potential and his 6 boards per game will be the best we ever get out of him as a PF. ( Make Wright backup PF, Turiaf backup C) 2) Brendan Wright - Has got to put some meat on them bones, showed brilliance in the open floor and in using his length well, hasn't shown full rebounding potential yet, needs to increase his offense and defensive awareness. Having Wright as a starter will develop him much faster. (Moves Harrington to sixth-man) 3) Corey Maggette/Stephen Jackson -  Yes, we love to play small ball but this is too much, I know that we will see one of them play the PF position depending on game situations ...

I decided to put out a poll, so we could all see each other's opinions. It will also probably seperate the fans from people who actually understand basketball. Note: I am not saying that I'm a pro at understanding the game in any way, shape, or form.   With that said it would be also nice if you gave your reason for your pick & as much supporting information as possible or to your knowledge. I was also wondering on everyone's personal opinions on the nba 2k9 and nba live 09' releases. Which do you think is the better basketball simulator & why?   I am a fan of the 2k franchise, particularly because of the improved player designs, smooth transitions in the in-game graphics and the physics are pretty phenomonal. The gameplay, I think anyways, is also better than EA sports' Live version of the NBA. & yes I have played both 2k8 and Live 08'. Poll Of all the Warriors players, who do you think has the best all-around game? Remember to take all of the following in to consideration: fg%, 3pt%, passing ability, athleticism, rebounding ability, defensive ability, and effectiveness while on the court. Filed under: Warriors , Western , NBA Injuries Chris Mullin is a rock. He is an island. He is incredibly chill about losing his $66 million point-guard for 4 months. As reported by the irreplaceable Tim Kawakami , Mullin told local reporters that though disheartened by the loss of Monta Ellis for the start of the season, he is not in panic mode. Kawakami reports that Mullin and Don Nelson are looking at their options, including inserting Marcus Williams as starter, or going to a bigger lineup with Stephen Jackson and Corey Maggette. Mullin also said he will be going to a long-scheduled meeting in Chicago with former Clipper Shaun Livingston . Livingston, as you may know, kind of has his own injury issues to work out, but Mullin says he's not in any rush because he "has enough ball-handlers, even without Ellis." While the Warriors are archetypically comprised of big men that can run and score, they still need a central point guard, and preferably one with speed, to execute Don Nelson's offense. The idea of a Stephen Jackson - Corey Maggette - Brandon Wright / Anthony Randolph - Al Harrington - Andris Biedrins lineup is fascinating, though. It would be like a fleet of giraffes. Not going to frighten you in any respect, but you will stop and watch it for a while, just because it's so bizarre. My first thought when I heard about the Ellis injury, other than "Fate is cruel" was "They should look at Livingston." Livingston had a ton of ...

Watching the current USA basketball team reminds me of watching the Dream Team of old.   Kind of made me think about ideals and how we view players and teams.   The name the "Dream Team" sets the stage for an NBA team that will never exist.  Therefore every team fan shall see shortcomings from every player on their team; unless they have Lebron or whoever.  What I want to draw attention to is how fans respond to players based on their contracts.  I felt nothing but pity for Barry Zito, unitl tonight when he shut down the Padre's  for 8 innings.   Even though Zito has received so much crap for under-preforming based on his salary, he came back through adversary tonight with what we must understand as an uphill battle. This brings me to another topic:  Al Harrington.   If you true fans remember, Mullin sought after Al for years.  The dubs wanted a versatile SF/PF that could shoot the 3, (Al had the best % in the league), and they got one of the best big men that could shoot.   Now a few years down the line, TMNT is burden.  His contract is too high.  To that I say F that!  Al has done great for the team through much effort.  People who stil complain about him not being able to finish well must understand that if he could both finsh close and far, he would cost more than he already does.  What do we want?  We want Monta to be a mix of Tony Parker and CP3.....I can actually see that happening.  He already finishes better than Tony, and ...

Filed under: Warriors There's never a dull moment in the life cycle of an NBA franchise (unless you're the Bucks). Golden State has remade its roster this summer, letting Baron Davis spread his wings elsewhere while poaching Southlanders Corey Maggette and Ronny Turiaf . Andris Biedrins and Monta Ellis received weighty extensions. Things seem settled for now. But here's Stephen Jackson , in the middle of August, posting in Port Arthur talking about needing a contract extension to remain happy with the direction of the time. Take it away, Marcus Thompson III of the Contra Costa Times : "It's something I always think about," Jackson said from his basketball camp. "It's definitely something that has to be addressed because of what I do for this team and what I've done since I've been here, bringing this team from one of the bottom teams in the league to a playoff team, to a team that won 49 games. It's not what I want, it's what I deserve. "... I won't be comfortable going into this season knowing I have to play this whole season being the fifth highest-paid and not get an extension. I would not be happy." Jackson's a fine player on the right team, and his contract is a bit underpriced. But it's not like GSW's scrubs are making more than him. Ellis and Biedrins are stars in the making, 22-year-olds with immediate production value and potential for excellence. Maggs is one of the best scorers in the league. Al Harrington is ... well o ...

As Baron bolted to SoCal for personal and monetary reasons, so did the roster's star power and leadership.  But Mully made some great offseason moves to fill the void left by Boom by creating depth on the roster and some versatility.  Looking at the new Warriors roster makes me feel optimistic for the upcoming season, except for one player -- Stephen Jackson.  Captain Jack is the lone member of the tri-captain squad from last year.  His grit and leadership is much needed for the Dubs to be successful this season, but he is now the least-paid player of the starting five: 1. Monta Ellis - $11,000,000                                                        2. Al Harrington - $9,226,250 3. Andris Biedrins - $9,000,000 4. Corey Maggette - $8,275,862 5. Stephen Jackson - $7,140,000  S-Jax is up for an extention soon, as the '09-'10 season is the last year of his contract.  I highly doubt that Mully would offer him one that Jack would be content with.  He is 30 years old and his best years are behind him.  It's beginning to look like Jack's Warrior days are coming to an end within the next two years.  How will all this effect Stephen's play this year?  Will he suck it up and be the professional leader of this young squad or will he sulk all year wondering why The Captain is not gettin' his?? Also, the fact that his homeboy Harrington is getting shopped around doesn't really help matters either.  Talent and depth can take a team so far, but ...

One shot was a little better, one cheer was a little louder, but when Padraig Harrington and Sergio Garcia climbed the hill to the 17th green and saw golf balls 10 feet and 4 feet from the cup, they didn't know which was which. They were tied for the lead yesterday afternoon in the PGA Championship. Advantage, Harrington. Even though the Irishman was farther away, memories were still fresh of his victory in the British Open last month, and his playoff victory over Garcia in the British Open last year. "I knew that I had the opportunity to get the putt in first," Harrington said. "And that was important. I knew if I holed this, I probably would win the PGA. If I missed, Sergio would probably win the PGA. So it was down to that. "And I hit a lovely putt." Harrington made the 10-foot birdie putt to seize the lead for the first time at Oakland Hills, and he finished off a steely display of putting with a 15-footer for par on the 18th hole to become only the fourth player to win the British Open and PGA in the same year. Garcia's 4-foot putt caught the left lip, stretching his record in the majors as a pro to 0-38. "There's guys that get a little bit fortunate," Garcia said. "They get in contention in a major and manage to get things going their way. And unfortunately, it hasn't happened to me. I feel like I played well enough to win probably more than two majors throughout my career." Instead, he has one fewer than Ben Curtis, who Al ...

Looking forward to the upcoming season, I began to wonder how Nelson will assemble the team with all of the new pieces acquired. Kelenna Azubuike - How will he fare with 25+ minutes a game and a new role? Nelson didn't play him enough. With such limited time last season, Azubuike rarely stepped out of his element in attempt to take over a game with a high volume of shots. Not that his confidence wouldn't allow him to do this, rather he allows the offense to simply come to him, allowing it to flow instead of anchoring it with indecision, or sabotaging it with questionable decisions. His rebounding ability is excellent, and he's strong enough to defend the post. How he fits in - I think Nelson would be wise to give Azubuike alot of time at the 3, playing him next to Marcus Williams and Monta Ellis in the backcourt, and Turiaf & Biedrins protecting the basket. Why? Because Azubuike complements Ellis' game so well, they both rebound the ball, and with Ellis and Williams driving, Buike will get alot of open 3's, which is why his outside shot must continue to improve. The high pick n roll will result in an open look to Azubuike on the weak side from 3. He and Ellis are among the better rebounding guards in the NBA.      Turiaf starting? Should Ronny Turiaf start over Al Harrington? I think it is important for a team like the Warriors to come out aggressive on offense, and Al is more capable of providing the points. Turiaf offers them an ...

This in order to make salary cap space for recently acquired Brett Favre . From ESPN - The Jets released Pennington at 4 p.m. Thursday to clear salary-cap space for Brett Favre's arrival, but a half dozen teams already have contacted Pennington's agent, Tom Condon, to express interest in signing the eight-year NFL veteran, a source told ESPN.com. The source also said Pennington probably wouldn't find a new home for two or three days because the interested clubs are busy with preseason games. Pennington wasn't a bad QB during his Jet days, but he was considered a disappointment. The Jets have been looking for the next Joe Namath for over 30 years. Note- The Jets were my favorite team while growing up in New York and after my move to Florida. After leaving the Navy in 1989, I gradually changed allegiance to my local team, the Miami Dolphins. Pennington, who is 32 years of age, was comeback player of the year in 2006. So his services are likely to be sought by other NFL teams. One of the teams is the Miami Dolphins, who open their preseason Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. One columnist at the Palm Beach Post has already written how Miami should try to sign Pennington. My feelings are pretty mixed. The Dolphins have spent the last four years seeking QB solutions. AJ Feeley, Daunte Culpepper, Cleo Lemon, Trent Green, Joey Harrington and Josh McCown, are other quarterbacks brought in by Miami to fill in at QB. We know how Al ...
