Chris Orphanou, chief executive of Coventry AirPort , is confident that the High Court will rule in favour of expansion plans, the Coventry Telegraph has reported. Mr Orphanou believes that Coventry AirPort will be successful in its bid to construct a new terminal after the government halted plans for the expansion on the decision of a planning inspector. Mr Orphanou told the Coventry Telegraph: "They said that if Birmingham is so near there was no need for Coventry to exist, but there are lots of examples round the country of neighbouring airports being successful and complementing each other." According to Mr Orphanou, Coventry AirPort's new terminal would provide a boost to the local economy, and double its amount of passengers per year to two million. "The expansion of the AirPort will bring jobs to the area – not just at the AirPort – it will attract other businesses to the region and will benefit the area economically," Mr Orphanou told the newspaper. The decision on Coventry AirPort's proposed new terminal will be made early next year due to a summer recess. ...

The Prince George AirPort has won permission from the federal government to handle international cargo. The development, announced Thursday by Transport, Infrastructure and Communities Minister Lawrence Cannon, means the AirPort can be used as more than just a refueling stop for large cargo jets once the runway extension is completed this fall."There are certain things you can't do if you don't have transshipment rights," said AirPort general manager Stieg Hoeg. "You can't actually have cargo movement between aircraft or from the ground and onto these fuel stops (without the rights) so it's very essential for us to have it to build that next level of the business case."In gaining the status, cargo can now be flown from the United States into Prince George, stored temporarily, and then flown to an Asian destination. Similarly, international air cargo could also arrive from overseas and then be shipped by rail or road from Prince George to the United States. The announcement left Hoeg in a jubilant mood."This is very welcome news from Transport Canada," he said. "We wouldn't maximize the... ...
