By BAILEY SHIFFLER Because of high ozone levels, officials advise North Texans with allergy or respiratory problems to stay indoors Wednesday. Today’s Air Quality is predicted to be level "orange," or unhealthy for sensitive groups such as young children, older adults and people with respiratory problems. Dan Shoemaker, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, said the "orange" level ozone readings are generally considered to cause irritation but are not usually hazardous. He said those who are part of a sensitive group should avoid being outside during peak ozone time, especially in the afternoon and early evening. According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, light winds and high ozone background levels are causing poor Air Quality mostly on the north and northwest side of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The winds are expected to continue tomorrow, making Thursday’s warning the same: unhealthy for sensitive groups. There have been 12 days this year in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with readings considered unhealthy for sensitive groups, according to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
