The patch for an improved Aggregator for Drupal 7 is now available on Drupal.org #236237 . This code is result of Aron Novak's Google Summer of Code project and it is available as a Drupal project with regular patches against Drupal HEAD #236237 . The patch has been out for a couple of weeks, so it's high time to talk about what improvements it aims to bring to Drupal core. Before I dive into the details though, I'd like to point out that several people requested to break the patch into smaller pieces as it is rather big and touches on more than one functionality of the Aggregator. Thanks to Drupal 6.3 I was able to whip together bantler.com in a little less than a week. (100 hours development during seven rainy Seattle days). The site brings popular "deal of the day" sites such as Woot , Steep and Cheap , and Amazon goldbox into one unified interface, allowing you to keep up to date on the sites you like while easily filtering out the ones you don't. The goal was to make the site as easy to use as possible, so there's no need to register to save your preferences...thanks to jQuery and Cookies your personal settings are persistent between visits. Zapak, Reliance ADAG's online casual gaming arm, has launched Zapakworld , a casual game Aggregator consisting of 12236 games, reports Medianama . User's have the ability to upload their own games. Note that Zapak in its earliest avatar was an Aggregator itself, albeit not one that scrapped for player embed codes on other sites. While it currently white-label's licensed products, Zapakworld on the other hand is a mother-load of everything with a teddy-bear and actionscript. Profile Aggregator Plugin Readme It gives you the ability to pull in and aggregate each users profile along with building Organizational Mappings. Use Cases You want to use Clearspace or LDAP as your authorization mechanism, but have profile information in an external system. Technologies The plugin uses a simple REST URL defined by the user in System Properties. The source is available inside the plugin jar. Installation Like most Clearspace plugins, you can install Profile Aggregator through the Admin console. Open the admin console and navigate to System > Plugins, then click Add Plugin and browse for your plugin JAR file. Usage If you want to use it, you will need to do the following: Specify the REST URL to use via the 'profile.Aggregator.restURL' property. ex. profile.Aggregator.restURL= http://www.jivesoftware.com/service This plugin assumes (for now) that the emailAddress is the primary key to use to relate users. The users email address is automatically appended to the url and send via a GET to the service. In the admin | people | Profile, you can specify external mappings for each individual field in the profile. For Example: Click on Title, and specify "Externally Managed", then save. AOL appears interested in the market for social Aggregator apps that let users track what their pals are doing on multiple sites. Earlier this week they launched AIM BuddyUpdates , and today TechCrunch reports that the company has purchased Socialthing, which does primarily the same thing. Socialthing is definitely not the most talked-about social Aggregator. That distinction belongs to FriendFeed, though it doesn't seem to have given FriendFeed many users who aren't bloggers .
