This is much less of a news piece than it is an advertisement for Iran, but the news program is Russia Today. Russia and Iran are trade partners, so it is not really all that surprising that a news show that is roughly as legitimate as Fox News would air this. Amazing disconnect on the professor’s statements. If the U.S. is in Afghanistan, we are occupiers, but Iran would not be? Just noticed the professor’s first name, rather unfortunate. Actually it is a perfect fit, so professor Izada, F.O.A.D . It just seems funny to me, even though I should be more mature than that. ... Source: www.buenosairesnews.net --- 2 hours ago

Bill Foster Il-14 supported President Obama and voted against Kuccinich's resolution. via ABC, ABC News' Kristina Wong reports: The House Wednesday overwhelmingly defeated a resolution to set a timeline for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan. The resolution, authored by Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, called for the removal of all U.S. troops within 30 days of its adoption, but gave the president until Dec. 31, 2010 to pull out the military if the 30-day deadline was considered unsafe. Only five GOPers voted against the resolution so America's United. Not quite the deep divisions some would have us believe. I count Ill Dems voting agaist as: Foster, Hare, Lipinski, Manzullo, Bean, and Halvorson. ... Source: wn.com --- 2 hours ago
WASHINGTON — The U.S.-backed government of Afghan President Hamid Karzai has a "poor" human rights record, tarnished by widespread impunity for security forces who commit abuses; violence against women; torture and extra-judicial killings, the State Department said in an annual report released Thursday. "The country's human rights record remained poor," the report said. Afghan police, now being trained by NATO countries — to speed a U.S. troop withdrawal — enjoyed "pervasive" impunity for abuses ranging from extorting bribes from citizens trying to avoid jail to sexual violence against boys at police checkpoints. The report noted that... ... Source: en.newsxs.com --- 2 hours ago

Welcome back to the Sixth District of Minnesota, the place that makes the Twilight Zone look like an island of sanity. Andy Birkey of the Minnesota Independent just ran this story today. Rep. Michele Bachmann told Tea Party activists on Wednesday to "take the town halls to Washington, DC" to defeat the health care bill. Bachmann suggested that passing the health reform bill would be a slam against freedom - and the troops in Afghanistan... ..."The men and women today who are bleeding for us in Afghanistan," she said. "We need to think about them, what they gave to us, and recognize if this goes down in the United States, where does anyone go for freedom? Where do we go for freedom?" "We the people are going to roll them out," said Bachmann, "and when we roll them out we're going to roll this bill back... Now is the time to see the whites of their eyes. " Birkey has the video, from the Washington Independent. http://minnesotaindependent.co... Birkey thinks the money quote is Bachmann's invocation of "the whites of their eyes," the revolutionary call not to shoot your opponents until they get real, real close. (Bachmann's done a lot of bloodthirsty imagery this year.) Me, I think the heart this story is the logic of claiming that "supporting the Democratic health care bill equals a betrayal of our troops in Afghanistan." A close second is Bachmann's suggestion that if this bill goes through, there won't be any freedom left anywhere in ... Source: www.24dunia.com --- 3 hours ago
