In what should send shockwaves through the Republican Party, Republican Vice President nominee, Sarah Palin, called for President Bush to step down as President. In referring to President Bush's August, 2007 comments that our bombings in Afghan have killed innocent civilians, Palin told Fox News reporter Carl Cameron: "Some of his comments that he has made about the war that I think may -- in my world- disqualifies someone from consideration as commander in chief." Palin said, "Some of his comments about Afghanistan and what we are doing there supposedly- just air raiding Villages and killing civilians. That's reckless." The McCain campaign immediately clarified Palin's statement. "Sarah had mistakenly memorized the wrong politician's comments," said spokesman Tucker Bounds. But Palin was referring to the President's comments during a joint press conference with Afghani President Karzai where the President alluded to American bombing raids that had killed READ THE SHOCKING DETAILS OF PALIN'S CALL OUT OF BUSH RIGHT HERE. Both campaigns are going full throttle with spurious attacks against each other today. But a new ad by Team McCain calling Barack Obama “dangerous” left The Mouth agape - at least until Sarah Palin repeated her claim today that Obama counts “domestic terrorist” Bill Ayers as among his pals. “Who is Barack Obama? He says our troops in Afghanistan are ‘just air-raiding Villages and killing civilians,’” a narrator says in the new McCain-Palin ad. “How dishonorable.” Here’s what Obama actually said 14 months ago: “We’ve got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops so that we’re not just air-raiding Villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous pressure over there.” Certainly Obama was inarticulate in describing a serious problem. But even Defense Secretary Robert Gates offered “sincere condolences and personal regret” a few weeks ago for the civilians killed by friendly forces (as the Obama camp was quick to point out). The rising death toll also prompted Afghan President Hamid Karzai to go on “60 Minutes” in late August to reveal he has asked President Bush to cease most airstrikes. There aren’t enough troops to do the job in Afghanistan, agree political adversaries ranging from Barack Obama to John McCain to President Bush. The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, Army Gen. David McKiernan, has asked for up to 10,000 more troops. (Last week, however, McKiernan told reporters: “What I don’t thin ... Source: www.nzherald.co.nz --- 8 days ago

On the October 6 edition of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes , co-host Sean Hannity repeatedly cited Sen. Barack Obama's August 13, 2007, remark that "[w]e've got to get the job done there [in Afghanistan] and that requires us to have enough troops so that we're not just air-raiding Villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous pressure over there," at one point calling Obama's statement a "lie." However, as Media Matters for America has documented , Defense Secretary Robert Gates recently apologized for deaths resulting from coalition airstrikes, saying in a September 17 statement : "I offer all Afghans my sincere condolences and personal regrets for the recent loss of innocent life as a result of coalition airstrikes. While no military has ever done more to prevent civilian casualties, it is clear that we have to work even harder. I have asked for a detailed briefing this afternoon about our close air support as well as our intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations." Further, U.S. airstrikes in Afghanistan and accounts of resulting civilian casualties have been widely reported in the media and have reportedly provoked criticism from Afghan President Hamid Karzai and a British commander stationed there. Additionally, the Associated Press reported in a "Fact Check" the day after Obama's remark: "Western forces have been killing [Afghan] civilians at a faster rate than the insurgents." During the show, Hannit ... Find more results for Afghan Villages on RSSMicro.com |
