You can now access your FastMail Address Book via LDAP. Many email programs (eg Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, etc) support LDAP access for Address books. There are some important caveats with using this: The Address Book is read-only via LDAP, so you can’t make changes or add addresses to your Address Book from your email program The Address [...] ...

Following my earlier chase of Alice down the Rabbit hole, regarding moves gone wild and wacky . . . We noticed that the Address Book, if filtered for contacts, displayed the users associated with the move/move back, at the top of the displayed list, as being in the PO moved (back) from. IOW - if we move the user from PO A, to PO B, the Address Book looks fine, filters on or off. The user shows as being in PO B. Which is correct. If we move the user from PO B back to PO A, even if bouncing the POA (for A) first to make it go error free, the user shows up, *only* in the filtered for contacts view, out of order, at the top of the list, as being in PO B. Also shows correctly, in the correct order, as being in PO A. The latter being correct. The (incorrect) user does not show up in unfiltered view. joe a. ...

To quickly (as compared to using nested loops in AppleScript) extract all email addresses from the Address Book, you can tap into Address Book’s SQLite database using the command line (in Terminal): sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\ Support/AddressBook/AddressBook-v22.abcddb "select ZADDRESSNORMALIZED from ZABCDEMAILADDRESS;" If you want to alphabetize and remove duplicates: sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\ Support/AddressBook/AddressBook-v22.abcddb "select ZADDRESSNORMALIZED from ZABCDEMAILADDRESS;" | sort | uniq Please note: This works in Leopard, and should work in Tiger too. However, the database filename looks like it could change at a... ...

I have a HP laptop running Vista and a MacBook Pro with Leopard. I transferred my windows contacts to the hard drive on my Time Capsule. When I try to import them into my Address Book on Leopard, it tells me that there is not a program to open them, they MAY be in an unsupported format. I find that hard to believe. All I have heard is about how easy to switch files is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ...

We are using BES to sych wirelessly with Lotus Notes. In the PIM Synch for users on BES, I have entered the details for Address Book, a replica of their PAB created on the BES which replicates with their local copy when connected to the network. It has been working OK.... up to now. One of the guys claimed his Address Book was out of synch, so on checking I spotted several more (including mine) with the same problem. The Address Book Location field on BES has changed to out Domino server details. I have changed it back, but when checking again, the field has again reset to Domino (should have been BES) Does anyone know why this can happen, and also more importantly, how do I get it to stay pointing at BES as it should (and has for the last year) do? Thanks ...

Actually, the truth of the matter is other countries finance US debt and would themselves be richer if they simply stopped buying US treasuries or pegging their currencies to the USD. This in turn would force domestic interest rates across the board to increase and as a result, Americans would have to cut consumption and save substantially more than they do now. And in the long-run this could make the US as a whole, rich again (or at least not broke). Right now consumption is being funded by artificially cheap credit which is financed in large part by foreign banks, sovereign wealth funds and the FOMC. Still the same, a provocative illustration, especially when one realizes that three decades ago, the US was the largest creditor nation and today is the largest debtor nation. Quite a swing. And for those that are interested, the flags on the sleeve represent Japan, the PRC and Russia, who currently hold more than $1.1 trillion of US treasury securities. Be sure to thank them for buying toxic paper, like MBSs from FRE and FNM, to prop up your home equity. ...

I have around 2000 entries in my Address Book. Most are properly formatted but some only consist of email addresses. I want to use Applescript to go through the Address Book, find email-Address-only contacts, search for other contacts with the same email addresses and then merge them (or at least set the names in the empty contacts). Can anyone suggest how to do that? Thanks! Bruce ...
