The Obama campaign has released a soundtrack album, but this is politics, so the track listing for Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement isn't exactly change we can believe in. One track worth debating, though, is "Promised Land", by previous Kanye West and Common collaborator Malik Yusef , joined here by Yeezy and Maroon 5's Adam Levine. Not much to it: Yusef makes a "declaration that we'll be fair again/ Especially to those Americans who were Americans/ Before there were Americans" over keys, soulful bass, gunshots, car-lock noises, and cello that's kind of like a Colplay-ed out "Venus in Furs". As the beat arrives, Levine sings about promised lands and promises, while West raps that "we need somethin' extraterrestrial, out of this world." Great.
