The first thing you’ll notice looking at the new TSX —if you notice the car in the first place—is the revised exterior styling. The first of Acura’s revamped sedan line-up to go on sale, the TSX is a bit different from the previous TSX I was so fond of. Sporting a new grille and front-end styling, the car somehow manages to look both edgy and bland at the same time. On the inside, I was glad to find a more comfortable seating position and I really loved the steering wheel and how its controls were set up. However, one thing becomes very evident quickly in the new TSX—there are too many buttons! Almost any command that has to do with the radio can be executed in three different ways—through the steering wheel controls, the radio buttons, or a control knob alarmingly like BMW’s reviled iDrive interface. I don’t mind options, but the center console looks like a commercial jet cockpit. Redundant controls theoretically make common tasks easier for safety, but when you find yourself gazing at the overwhelming number of labeled buttons while on the freeway, any advantage is moot. I really liked the iPod interface, especially considering it worked flawlessly with my iPhone, which is rare. Likewise, the stereo’s sound quality was also quite good, especially when playing CDs and MP3s. On the road, the TSX didn’t excite me. Sure, it was comfortable, but it was also very unremarkable.
