Anti-Arrhythmic Effect of Acupuncture Pretreatment in the Rats Subjected to Simulative Global Ischemia and Reperfusion - Involvement of Adenylate Cyclase, Protein Kinase A and L-Type Ca(2+) Channel. J Physiol Sci. 2008 Oct 10; Authors: Gao J, Zhang L, Wang Y, Lu B, Cui H, Fu W, Wang H, Yu Y, Yu X Our previous study showed that electro-Acupuncture (EA) pretreatment protects the heart from injury of ischemia. The present study explored further whether adenylate cyclase (AC), protein kinase A (PKA) and L-type Ca(2+) channel, the beta(1)-AR signaling components modulating intracellular Ca(2+) ([Ca(2+)](i)), are involved in the mediation of the anti-arrhythmic effect of EA pretreatment in the rats from which the hearts were subsequently isolated and subjected to simulative global ischemia and reperfusion (SGIR). SGIR was performed by perfusing the isolated heart at a low flow followed by normal perfusion. Adult rats were randomized into four groups, namely, normal control (NC), SGIR, EA and NC plus EA (NCEA) groups. The rats in EA and NCEA groups were given EA pretreatment at bilateral Neiguan points (PC6) for 30 min once a day in 3 consecutive days before the hearts were isolated and perfused. The arrhythmia score and the response of [Ca(2+)](i) to the activators of AC, PKA and L-Ca(2+) channel in single ventricular myocyte isolated from the hearts subjected to SGIR were compared among the groups. The results showed that the arrhythmia s ...

By Bi Kun tan All of parallel processing methods, today, Acupuncture will crown the list. China, believed to be the birthplace of Acupuncture. What is Acupuncture, and how it can be used to relieve pain A The following paragraphs will try to answer this question. Chinese believe that nature consists of two forces that oppose each other is' Yin 'and' Yang '. The Chinese refer to the flow of energy 'for any'. The road 'for any' shall be known as' Meridian '. There are a number of lines of longitude in the human body. Longitude every organ is composed of at least one. Chinese believe that no impediment to the flow \"so that\" results in creating an imbalance between the two opposing force ( 'Yin' and 'Yang') which leads to the disease. A complex network of more than four hundred Acupuncture points on the human body. Made of thin metal needles used in Acupuncture therapy. \"Understood the pressure points, and the appropriate methods for diagnosis and treatment of patients\" is very important, every acupuncturist. The first thing, a acupuncturists must do is identify the location of a mobile improper 'gas'. The number of points, to be used in the treatment of the meeting depends on a number of factors, such as age, the health of patients and patients. In support of Breast Cancer month, I want to reproduce a study that was just posted on Integrative Medicine’s site on October 1, 2008. The results of a study conducted at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit suggested that Acupuncture controlled hot flashes as effectively as venlafaxine while also providing additional benefits to patients on anti-estrogen treatment for breast cancer. Eleanor Walker, MD, a radiation oncologist at Henry Ford, presented the findings. Walker and colleagues randomly assigned 24 women with breast cancer to Acupuncture and 23 to venlafaxine (Effexor, Wyeth). All patients were experiencing at least 14 hot flashes per week. Patients were assigned to Acupuncture twice per week during the first four weeks of the study and once per week during the remaining eight weeks. After one year of follow-up, all patients in the study had decreased hot flashes. “The study showed Acupuncture was as effective as venlafaxine in decreasing hot flashes in breast cancer patients on anti-estrogen hormone therapy, but what was even better was it had no adverse effects compared with venlafaxine,” Walker told Endocrine Today. “In addition, Acupuncture had benefits. Women were more energetic, they had better clarity of thought, and, overall, their sense of well-being was better.” Walker also said that some patients in the Acupuncture arm had increased sex drive and that the treatment effect lasted longer than it did in patients assigned to ve ...

Here is another very informative article from Acufinder.com Acupuncture and Pregnancy By: Naomi Rabinowitz MD, Dipl.Ac. Since Confucianism involves ancestral worship, the Chinese have been strongly committed to having healthy children. A sturdy son was desired in particular, since it would be he who would tend the shrine of his departed antecedents. Chinese Medicine developed to address the expectations of the faithful follower of that tradition. Treatment evolved to help couples to conceive and then to foster a healthy pregnancy and uncomplicated delivery. Acupuncture as it is practiced today is a safe, comfortable and cost effective treatment for many of the problems that commonly develop in pregnancy. This is especially true since pharmaceuticals are contraindicated in pregnant women in most cases. How can Acupuncture be used in pregnancy? 1. Acupuncture for the healthy mom 2. Acupuncture for pre-existing medical issues 3. Acupuncture for pregnancy related conditions Psychological issues Physical problems Fatigue Morning Sickness Heartburn Constipation Hemorrhoids Back Pain and Sciatica Edema Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Rhinitis of pregnancy 4. Breech Presentation 5. Induction for post due date 6. Labor 7. Acupuncture for Post-partum disorders: Fatigue Postpartum vaginal discharge Postpartum Depression Mastitis Insufficient or Excessive Lactation Post Operative Healing Historical Context It is useful to look at the historical context in w ...

It's working. The first few treatments sent me into a pain spiral with this new mobility in my spine aggrivating my sciatica, but I have WAY more mobility in my back than I had a month ago. It still hurts, but today after another treatment I'd rate the pain a 5/10, while last week this time I was at an 8 or 9 (insert visual of me curled into a ball on the sidewalk because every step felt like Mike Tyson was trying to bite through the nerves in my lower back). And, when I got up off the physio table today, I didn't have any pain in my sacralized joint. Mind you it only lasted for about 1/2 an hour, but I can only recal maybe 3 times in my life where I felt no pain when standing (other things that worked were chiropractic - but it lasted maybe 5 min, and strong drugs that worked but were too addictive to get used to). So... the point of this post for all those people I've noticed searching Sacralization/Scoliosis/Sciatica/Knee, is to try Acupuncture and if that doesn't work try the extreme kind where they stick the needle into the pain muscle and shake it. It didn't fix me 100% but the improvement is encouraging. ...

Are you getting ready to run? Last year, a staff member from Runner’s World magazine developed plantar fasciitis (inflammation of the layer of tissue that supports the arch of the foot, got no conventional relief and decided it was time for an alternative therapy-Acupuncture. She felt some initial discomfort, but as she grew more comfortable with the process, the pain subsided. The acupuncturist also attached an electrical-stimulation device to a few of the needles. After 30 minutes, he detached the machine, removed the needles and the runner felt better-much better. She wrote, "After the second session, I went running, and there was absolutely no pain in my heel." You still have time………… Acupuncture is a great way to relieve pain from many injuries that runners suffer during training. ...
