The new premium range is expected to be based on the Deneb FX core and built for the AM3 socket design. The company has traditionally used the FX brand to designate those processors specifically for gamers and enthusiasts, starting with the release of the Athlon 64 FX in 2003. Details are still a little hazy, but the new range will be built on 45nm technology and feature four cores and shared L3 cache. I have read your processor_check.pdf document and concluded that VMWare Workstation v6.x does not support my AMD Phenom 9600 processor as it is not included in the list: • AMD^TM^ Athlon^TM^ 64, revision D or later • AMD Opteron^TM^, revision E or later • AMD Turion^TM^ 64, revision E or later • AMD Sempron^TM^, 64-bit-capable revision D or later (experimental support) Is this correct? As I suspect this is correct, do you have any indication when AMD Phenom processors will be added to the supported 64bit processors? Also - I would like to read KB Article 1901, but it has been unavailable for the past few days. Is there a static copy I can obtain? Thanks in advance for the help, AJ ...

A slide detailing AMD’s Q4 2008 roadmap has turned up on a Spanish forum , confirming that the company plans to announce its first Deneb quad-core desktop processors at CES 2009 in January. Closer at hand, though, are the 2.5GHz 95W Phenom X3 8850 and the 2.6GHz 45W Athlon X2 5050e, with single- and dual-core low-power CPUs following in November. The low-power chips are the 1.6GHz Athlon 2650, single-core with a draw of just 15W, and the dual-core Athlon X2 3250e, running at 1.5GHz and requiring up to 22W. November will also see “AMD Ultra-Value Client (UVC) Solutions”, not for general retail but for OEM customers, which it’s theorized are Atom-rivalling Geode chips for netbooks. In December, AMD will release a 95W Phenom X3 8850 triple-core CPU, with an unlocked clock speed of 2.5GHz. That will be joined by the two Deneb quad-core processors, running at 3.0GHz and 2.8GHz and both requiring 125W; however, they are embargoed until January 8th, the second day of CES 2009.
