The thing about last night was that it was summer madness in NY, and PAPERMAG was hungry for it all! The Amesbury Housing Authority will celebrate its 60th birthday Sunday, July 27, 1-4 p.m. at Powwow Villa (between Friend, Thompson and Summer streets). The celebration, which will be held rain or shine, will conclude by 4 p.m. in the Heritage Tower Community Room. This event will celebrate the 60-year contribution the AHA has made to the town and its citizens. The event will start at Powow Villa at 1 p.m. at the Gazebo, or in the community building in the event of rain) and will include brief speeches from current board members, local state and regional elected officials. Food and beverages will be available. Past employees and board members have been invited to attend. Open mike will be available for current and former residents to make brief statements. After 2 p.m. the party will move by procession and motorcade to the Heritage Tower Community Room at 180 Main St., to complete the festivities. This progression will mirror the move the AHA made when the Tower was opened in 1977 and the office was moved from the Powow Villa Community to 180 Main. This is also the seventh Anniversary of the Supportive Housing Program., funded by the Legislature through the Elder Services of Merrimack Valley.  The program provides additional layers of services to residents over 60 for all 205 units. These services include daily nutrition, look-in service, assistance with medical care, homemaking services and assistance with transportation and more. ...
