(AP) — New Mexico health officials are urging parents to tell children not to handle wild animals. The warning comes after a bat found in northeast Albuquerque tested positive for rabies. A number of children were reportedly near the bat and took photographs of it on the evening of May 11, but it's not clear if any of them touched or handled it. Letters were sent to the parents of children who attend two nearby schools and flyers have been posted in the neighborhood, but the state Health Department says no known exposures have been reported. Health Secretary Retta Ward says the state wants to make sure no children were inadvertently exposed to rabies. rabies is a fatal disease if it is not treated before symptoms develop. What you probably did not do is gnash your teeth and rend your garments about how God will strike errrebody down for the having the married buttsecks or not caring if anyone else has the married buttsecks. No worries, though, because Wonkette’s best friend Bradlee Dean has that freakout covered: Minnesota-based Religious Right activist/rock star Bradlee Dean went ballistic on his radio show yesterday in response to his state’s new marriage equality law. Dean warned that Gov. Mark Dayton, who signed the same-sex marriage bill into law, is at “war with God” and is “about to find out what it’s like as to what the fallout is when you throw rocks towards God, he’s going to learn how gravity works.” Before we get started, please give a big hand to Right Wing Watch for listening to this whole radio show so we do not have to. God’s work, people. Speaking of God, is the God throwing rocks back at you a Bible thing? We are too lazy to look it up. Does God just let gravity do its work and let the rocks drop back to earth and ping you on the noggin? Does God step up his game and drop boulders on you? Maybe God just goes full metal jacket and cuts you down in a hail of bullets while screaming “my Uzi weighs a ton.” OK so God’s gon ...

A countywide rabies clinic takes place all day Saturday at various locations in Franklin County. Franklin County Health Department’s Environmental Health Director Louis Korff says all three veterinarians in Franklin County will be conducting the rabies clinic at the same low price of $5. This past week, Royston Police shot and killed a fox that exhibited signs of rabies. “When the fox tried to get up and run you could visibly notice it was sick unable to hold its balance. The fox showed several characteristics of a rabid animal and my Supervisor made the decision to put the animal down for the safety of the general public,” Boleman said. He said no one or other animals had come in contact with the fox. Boleman said his office contacted the Franklin County Health Department and they picked up the animal to send for testing. For information on the times and locations for Saturday’s rabies clinic, you can call the Franklin County Health Department at [...] ...

Cynthia Taggart of the Panhandle Health District tells The Spokesman-Review in a story published Wednesday that there's no sign anyone was bitten. But she says it's possible a bite can occur without a person knowing. The residents of the home reported finding the bat lying on a staircase, and used a towel to pick it up and put it outside. Instead of flying away the bat died, so the family sent it to be tested for rabies. rabies shots must start within 10 days of exposure and involve five shots over a couple weeks. Taggart says no one has ever developed rabies who started the shots within 10 days of exposure. ...
