This much was alluded to this week when Google announced its improved Google Play Music service, which does not support the nexus Q as confirmed by Phandroid . If this already wasn’t a death knell for the nexus Q, then news from the FCC might be another nail in the coffin. Liliputing has uncovered a FCC application that looks awfully like a replacement for the nexus Q. Described as a “ media player “, the only other information that can be divulged from this report is that the device is definitely from Google and that Google may have intentionally (or unintentionally) included a little easter egg; the device model is the H2G2-42. That first part, H2G2, was a common abbreviation for the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and second half, 42, is quite simply the answer to everything. So perhaps this Google media device will solve all our media needs all at the same time… Perhaps we’re reading too much into it and it’s just a coincidence, but I’m not convinced Google ‘does’ coincidences. All the same, there’s very little go on right now regarding this media device, so just hang tight till there’s something more concrete. Share your thoughts on whether you think this will be Google’s new media player in the comments. Source: Phandroid , Liliputing ...

Questions were raised on the price of the media streamer and what the user would get for their money. It appears Google has dropped the name and is going for a new media streamer, codenamed the H840, which just arrived at the FCC a few days ago. Google decided to keep everything closed in the FCC filing, apart from the fact it is capable of streaming media. The filing did not contain an image, so we cannot even tell if it is going to be a huge redesign. We did not see any hardware at Google I/O, with Google sticking to developers, software and services. It’s a modified version of the flagship Samsung handset that we first saw announced back in March , and it stands to offer the standard nexus user experience. What does this mean for Google’s actual line of nexus phones? Is the Galaxy S4 with pure Android meant to replace them? I’m not sure how long Google and Samsung sat through negotiations to try and get a product like this out the door. I think it may have been a long time coming. But it makes so much sense that you have to wonder, why didn’t they do this sooner? In fact, why don’t all Android phone makers release a nexus-like device of their own ? It simply baffles the mind. What we have with the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition is a device with absolute top-notch hardware paired with the best software that Android has to offer. It is, strictly speaking, one of the best Android phones ever — at least if you’re with T-Mobile and AT&T. The only thing that will keep it out of most people’s hands is its prohibitive price tag. And that’s where real nexus devices have it beat. Still, it makes a truly compelling case for an upgrade or a switch. It’s exactly what a lot of people want: a top-of-the-line phone with the latest version of Android. And it will be updated to even later versions of Android when newer ones start coming out. If Google wants to stop making new nexus phones like th ...

Source: androidheadlines.com --- Saturday, May 18, 2013
<img src="http://androidheadlines.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/nexus-q-lights-off.jpg" & width="150" & height="94" style="margin: 5pt 10px 0px 0px; float: left;" border="1" align="left" alt="" /> The nexus Q, Google’s take on a standalone media streamer, never really took off. While many raved over its interesting design, it never really took off. The obvious culprit was its $300 price tag. Even if a steaming device is made in the USA, it needs a little more functionality to deserve such a bloated price tag. Since Google’s new streaming service isn’t supported by the nexus Q many people believe that Google simply gave up on the project. Recent test documents from the FCC reveal that while the old Q may be abandoned, Google might just have a new device up their sleeves. Identified in testing documents as the H840 Device and rocking a model number of H2G2-42, details of the report indicate that this is indeed a new streamer. It “functions as a media player” and requires an external power source. The power source rules out any sort of wireless battery-powered device, indicating this is, in fact, designed to stay put. In addition the new gadget was tested on a 24 inch dell monitor, indicating that it’s designed to output to an external display. Oddly enough the two were connected via USB. The original nexus Q was a cool idea. Being able to stream music and video to your TV, all while controlling it with your smartphone, would’ve been fun. Unfortunately for Google, the Q was pitted against all kinds of cheaper, android powered set-top boxes. Those boxes could not only play video and music, they could run actual applications. ...

El Nexus Q parece seguir vivo: la FCC confirma un nuevo centro multimedia de Google

Source: www.xatakandroid.com --- Saturday, May 18, 2013

Will Google’s new Nexus Q, the H2G2-42, be the answer to life, the universe, and everything?

A full 7.5 million years later, it arrives at the answer: 42. Google appears to be referencing that bit of geek cult humor in a new device, the H2G2-42, that it is currently submitting to the FCC for regulatory testing. H2G2 is a Wikipedia-ish guide to “life, the universe, and everything” inspired by Adams’ books. There’s little data available about the device, but Google does say it is a “media player,” and a “fixed base station” with 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, which would make it almost certainly a replacement for Google’s failed nexus Q . The Q was Google’s ”first social streaming media player” that met with almost universally negative reviews , underwhelmed users, and is no longer for sale. Source: FCC Google device H2G2-42 is in FCC testing One change that seems likely: It appears that the H2G2-42 will allow users to plug in external monitors via provided USB ports: Source: FCC Google’s H2G2-42 may be connectable to external monitors As The Verge notes , Google’s new streaming music app broke compatibility with the nexus Q. The Google Play Music All Access product is impressive, enabling personalized “radio stations” and inexpensive streaming music. Google calls it “radio without rules,” and it seems reasonable that Google would want a shiny new device to go ...
