Oneohtrix Point Never-Disappointing totally told me over a glass of my own homemade, post-spin-class Kombucha tea this morning that he was thinking of releasing his new album, a double LP entitled R Plus 7 , on October 1! I was all like “yeah, man, you totally should do that.” And then he was like, “cool, bro. I will, then. Cheers.” And not only that, but he also said he was thinking of making the jump to Warp Records for this one. We were both pretty sweaty from the awesome workout we just had, so I think he was really grateful for the tea, because he let me have a gander at the press release he’d been working on last night: [Lopatin’s] Warp Records debut is a major departure from his previous work. [His] experimental inclinations lurk behind the scenes â in the concepts and procedures he adopted to create the tracks â while the music itself comes as close as Lopatin has ever gotten to anything resembling traditional song structure. Which, for Lopatin, is only so close: The work is full of overlapping, abstract musical through-lines, puzzle-like pieces that, taken together, might allow you to glimpse an overarching tableau.
