Part one appears here . When nine horses leave the gates at Pimlico in the second leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown Saturday afternoon, they will mark the end of a sporting era. For the last time, the Preakness Stakes will be run under medical and drug testing rules that are set solely by the state of Maryland, thanks to an agreement among eight mid-Atlantic and northeastern states that will set uniform medication and drug testing standards beginning in 2014. The compact, agreed to by New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Massachusetts, is the result of push to bring some uniformity to horse racing’s medication and drug rules that has lasted for nearly a decade, years in which the sport has faced questions about both performance-enhancing drugs and therapeutic medications used to treat horses both in the days leading up to races and on race days themselves. horse racing banned the use of anabolic steroids in 2008, when Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown tested positive for Winstrol, a performance enhancing drug, and runner-up Eight Belles collapsed shortly after the finish line and was euthanized on the track. But other drugs, mostly therapeutic in nature and used to treat routine injuries, are still wildly prevalent, raising questions in an American industr ...

Maybe that was the giveaway — or maybe it was the lack of manure! A Canadian “horse farm” was revealed to be a clever cover for an underground marijuana farm. Oddly enough, one of the properties housed an underground bunker that was concealed by a fake horse barn and paddock. All of the marijuana grow-ops were large and sophisticated in design. However, the underground bunker located at De Graff Road was the most unusual and featured a unique ventilation system that was camouflaged by horse stalls, a fake doghouse, and a fake fire pit. Caption: From the outside, this appears to be a beautiful set of horse stables complete with a turnout area. “Experienced officers describe it as one of the most sophisticated grow-ops they have ever seen,” says Sgt. Lindsey Houghton, CFSEU-BC’s Media Relations Officer. “These are not the classic marijuana grows in a closet in the basement or even ones seen in typical residential homes. We are talking about large, highly sophisticated grows that are using the latest technology to boost the growing cycle, as well as extremely high levels of security to keep the grow operation concealed from both the police and, more importantly from the grower’s perspective, from organizations that exist almost solely to steal or ‘rip’ grow-operations. For the owners of these grows, it is all about creating an easy, untaxed, very luc ...

Source: www.deuceofdavenport.com --- Monday, April 22, 2013
<img src="http://www.deuceofdavenport.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/threeamigos.jpg" & width="150" & height="104" style="margin: 5pt 10px 0px 0px; float: left;" border="1" align="left" alt="" />First you get the coke then you get the horses and then you get the women. The Zeta drug cartel thought they came up with a brilliant way to launder money from drug proceeds until it turned out that it wasn’t. Jose Treviño Morales and three others are going on trial in Austin, TX starting today. They allegedly set up a horse breeding and racing business that allowed them to launder millions of dollars in drug proceeds. Law enforcement officials claim the money came from Trevino’s younger brother, Miguel Angel Treviño Morales, who happens to be head of the Mexican Zeta cartel. He is considered the chief enforcer of the gang which was started by elite Army officers who deserted to work for the Gulf cartel before breaking out on their own. He’s known to heart chopping up his victims while they’re still alive. His favorite fatality is the Guiso which involves putting a victim into an oil drum and burning him alive. The Zetas spent over $1 million a month on horses. They continued to do so until federal authorities were tipped off by the $1 million purchase of a broodmare which is a female horse used for breeding. Others in the business noted that they were spending big and winning races at a time when the industry was struggling. The Treviño brothers devised an elaborate scheme in which Mexican businessmen paid for the horses — some of them worth hundreds of thousands of dollars — from their own bank accounts so the purchases would a ...
