Emotional farewell to Goalkeeper today & The daftest comment from Wenger this season?

Source: highbury-house.com --- Sunday, May 19, 2013
Morning all, So here we are, last day of the season – a season which has been very mixed. Some moments of brilliant football, albeit those moments mostly came against clubs who were either placed below us in the league or had been reduced to ten men. We played a good half against both Manchester clubs, City away when really we should have battered them but came away with just a point and then United at The Emirates. In that game we played some of our best football of the season in my opinion, we clearly wanted to beat them, we should have beaten them, only an error gifted them a penalty which in turn, gifted them a point… Had we played all season, we wouldn’t be where we are today, hoping and praying that the players can hold their nerve for one more game and get three points at St James Park. Wenger thinks needing the victory is a good thing: Sometimes you think it would be nice to play without pressure but, after, you think let’s get it back because it’s so boring. It would be worse to go to Newcastle with nothing at stake for us. We have what we wanted. Let’s do the job. I really don’t get that at all. I’d love us to be going to St James Park with the PL trophy in the bag, 2nd, 3rd or even 4th spot already secure and have nothing to play for. I’d love for us fans to be either present in the stands or watching on a screen somewhere, to able to do so without so much stress, anxiety and praying we can finish above the neighbours ...

Honk!” trophy yesterday at RMIT. Right, Johnny is pictured with Saigon President, Nick Shiells. Yesterday, John MacFarlane flew into Saigon and his last Swannies’ training session as a resident of Vietnam. While here, he collected his “ You can leave the country, but not the Club. Honk! ” trophy after training at RMIT University. Last year, John said that he wanted the Swannies to book a table for the Auscham Ball and that he would buy two tickets. Later he apologised saying that he would be unable to attend due to work commitments in Australia – but that he would still purchase his two tickets! For what? “For the Club to award to any Swannie that it sees fit”, he replied. Well why don’t you nominate the criteria and award the tickets yourself, Johnny? “OK. I will award the tickets to the player who plays with the Heart of a Swannie .” And a new tradition was born. John had just created an award to recognise the player who plays above himself. While that player may not be in the top three players for the fairest and best – he has still played the game of his life. This year, we have formalised the Heart of a Swannie so that for each international game, there is a dedicated vote for that particular award. The 2013 Heart of a Swannie will be announced on the same night as the Best & Fairest at the end of the year. John’s contributions on the field (how good was i ...

[...] Simmons appeared relaxed throughout, bantering with folks who got on the elevator midway as it descended to the first floor from the Red Room after the second commencement. At a lunch on the top floor of the library between the two ceremonies, several of his colleagues spoke, and one story in particular seemed to capture Simmons' particular charm. Stephen Doblin, provost and vice president for academic affairs, said from time to time, he would hear from students with a problem. ...

She was fully dressed in uniform with a knee brace and the eye black that always covers most of her face on game day. But Tumolo wasn’t needed as the rest of the Orange’s attack carried SU to victory. All season long, especially in Tumolo’s absence, Syracuse was powered by the offensive prowess of first-team All-Americans Kayla Treanor and Alyssa Murray, and that continued Saturday afternoon. The duo combined for seven points and led the No. 4-seed Orange (18-3) to a 13-9 win over No. 5-seed Florida (18-3) in front of 975 at the Carrier Dome. With its defeat of the Gators, Syracuse advances to the final four for the fourth time in Gait’s six years as SU head coach. “The bottom line is we knew it was going to be a tough game,” Gait said. “We looked at this game as an opportunity to demonstrate how much we’ve grown and how far we’ve come since the beginning of the year and I think from top to bottom, again, our players gave an incredible effort.” The Orange will travel to Villanova next weekend to face top-seeded Maryland for a spot in the national title game. Treanor set the tone for the Orange with a goal in the opening two minutes of the game to put Syracuse ahead, but it was not an easy first half.
