Tom cruise won’t be playing Napoleon Solo in The Man From U.N.C.L.E (Picture: Xposurephotos.com) The big screen adaptation of The Man From U.N.C.L.E has suffered another setback with the news that Tom cruise has exited the project. The Oblivion star had reportedly been in talks to join Armie Hammer in the long-in-the-offing reboot, which is due to be directed by Guy Ritchie later this year. According to US website Deadline, however, he has now quit due to a clash of schedules with the fifth Mission Impossible movie. With both films due to go before the cameras in the autumn, cruise has opted to focus on MI:5, which he will both star in and produce – once again leaving U.N.C.L.E without a star. The movie version of the 1960s show was originally set to go ahead with Steven Soderbergh directing and George Clooney taking the lead as secret agent Napoleon Solo. However the project ground to a halt in 2011 after Soderbergh was unable to reach agreement with producers Warner Bros over the budget. The original Man From U.N.C.L.E starred Robert Vaughan and David McCallum (Picture: File) Clooney, meanwhile, pulled out after suffering a back injury which would have made it difficult for him to cope with the physical demands of the role. Bradley Cooper was initially tipped to replace Clooney but pulled out of the project after initial talks. After briefly being attached to the big screen version of "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.," Tom cruise has officially left the building according to Deadline. The reason? He would be busy doing "Mission: Impossible 5." The Warner Bros. project, an adaptation of the TV show that ran from 1964 through 1968, has suffered many setbacks. The massive influx of people to the downtown core can be good and bad, depending on your perspective. Normally two ships pull into port, but on Friday there was three. The taxi companies refer to it as Black Day – it’s something that usually happens three times a season. Taxi drivers hit a bit of a snag early this morning, when ‘No Parking’ signs replaced ones that were stolen overnight along a block on Hastings Street. The space was supposed to be left open for waiting cabs. But with signs gone, vehicles started parking there, leaving cabs taking up a lane of traffic during the morning commute. Every cruise call generates more than two million dollars in economic activity. Vancouver will see 235 cruise ships calls this year. Americans make up more than half of the cruise ship passengers, but international travellers are steadily growing. Overall, there’s a 23 per cent increase in passengers from last year.
