The python broke the previous record set in 2012 by a 17-foot, 7-inch snake caught by researchers studying the impact of the growing population of pythons on the Everglades National Park. With the help of his friends, Leon wrestled and killed the snake with a knife, Segelson said. He then reported the find through Florida's "IveGot1" program, which connects callers to wildlife researchers. The Burmese python is an invasive species in Florida. Native to the region from India to lower China, the species has been documented to grow as long as 26 feet and weigh 200 pounds. Florida sponsored a python hunting competition in January to see whether annual hunts might put a dent in the local population, and to provide specimens for further research. Theories on how the snakes got into the Everglades include dumping by pet owners and the destruction of a nearby exotic pet dealership during the 1992 Hurricane Andrew.
Zac Efron to Star in NARC As a College Student Turned Police Informant; Dennis Lehane to Pen Screenplay for Leonardo DiCaprio-Starrer TRAVIS MCGEE

Source: collider.com --- Tuesday, May 21, 2013
Fox has picked up the life rights for true crime project, Narc, with Zac Efron (The Paperboy) set to star. Efron will change it up from his run of rom-coms and play a college kid busted for cocaine who turns rat for the authorities. He manages to continue his life as a student, fraternity president and lacrosse team captain, all while helping cops bust the bad guys on the downlow. Deadline reports that Narc is being described as a college version of Donnie Brasco and that Fox will tap a screenwriter from the studio's writers program. Hit the jump for the latest news on the crime picture, Travis McGee, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. THR reports that Dennis Lehane will write the screenplay for Travis McGee, which is based on John D. MacDonald’s 1964 mystery novel The Deep Blue Good-by. The novel is the first in a 21-book series which features the salvage consultant Travis McGee. The studio is looking to kickstart a possible franchise. Dana Stevens and Kario Salem penned an earlier draft. This marks the fourth pairing for Lehane and DiCaprio, and the first film treatment for Lehane that is not an adaptation of one of his own works. It's been more than three years since last we reported on Travis McGee, when DiCaprio was attempting to interest Oliver Stone in the picture. Here's the book's description (via Amazon): Travis McGee is a self-described beach bum who won his houseboat in a card game. He’s also a knight-errant who’s wary of cr ...

The best part is that when Chelsea Clinton herself called me to tell me I had been awarded this initial funding, she emphasized that this was just the startup money and that more funding would be allocated as the project developed to help make it successful. Rais project will employ Nepalese women at the local level to produce cash crops that can be sold. The profits generated from their work will be invested in improving education and making a library and computer lab possible. All of the other 600 proposals competing at this international meeting were submitted by groups.
