And it is serial numbered to just 20 copies!!! My guess is that the image did not call out to the everyday collectors as they probably just saw another common early-90′s Leaf baseball card of Andre Dawson. But this very thorough collector saw the Silver stamping in the upper-left and lower-right corners. And they got me to dig in just a little deeper – and I liked what I found. Issued in 2012 as a part of the Leaf Memories set, Leaf re-released some of their prior cards - adding the new Leaf Memories logo and then keeping the production run low. Lucky for me that either not enough people knew about these or that they were not interested in going after them because I nabbed this one ‘On The Cheap’!!!! ...

One card from the Red set, one card from the Blue Sparkle set, and two from the Gold set. I still have a long way to go to get these sets completed but it did feel good to be able to fill four voids with these finds. YESSIR!!! It’s always nice to grab a new card of Eddie Murray for the collection – and this time around was no different. This card comes from the somewhat recently released 2012 Panini Cooperstown set. It is the Crystal version of the base card – and it is very, very shiny!! As I have mentioned before in other, recent posts about Murray, I love to collect him, but my lone preference is that he is in his Orioles uniform. While this card is unable to show off the famous batting helmet or jersey front that he is wearing, I would say that this card still falls into the Baltimore category. When I attend these monthly baseball card shows, the biggest thrill that I get is the chance to simply sift through a massive amount of cardboard. As a kid, I used to love doing this and getting this chance once a month makes up for the other 30 days a month that I get to shop online for them. While at the card shows, I always find it interesting when I discover a card or set that I had not seen before. And that was what happened when I came across these two cards: Coming from the 2011 Topps Gypsy Queen set, the two cards you are seeing come from the ‘Wal Climbers’ subset. I like the theme, and I love the images. This is definitely a set that I will investigate further. If the remainder of the cards look as good as the first two that I picked up, I will be going after the full set, for sure!! ...

And I did!! Have a look: This card comes from the 2010 Topps Vintage Legends set. What drew me to the card was the team headline and uniform that McCovey is sporting - the Padres. While many, myself included, think of McCovey as a member of the San Francisco Giants, he did spend the 1974, 1975, and part of the 1976 baseball season playing for the Padres. ...

Source: bapple2286.wordpress.com --- Monday, May 06, 2013
baseball card Show Review Friends, the first weekend of May is now past us and with it goes another South Florida baseball card show. I went to the show on Friday night with a few collecting goals in mind. How did I do? Well, I am working on two 2012 subsets that I needed just one card from for each to complete the set – sadly, I did not find either of them. But, I did grab a few 2013 Topps colored parallels for my Miami Marlins master team set so that was a nice surprise. I also did not walk away with the vintage stuff that I was seeking – there were dealers there with vintage cards, just not what I was wanting to bring home. I did also find inspiration for the next subset to collect too!! All in all, it felt as if this show was short a few dealers. And the crowd was a bit smaller as well. I’m not sure if the horrible rain we’ve been dealing with kept the buyers and sellers at bay or if it was the full-slate of NBA action that did the trick, but I would say that for the time that I was present, this was the lowest attendance that I have encountered in 2013 at the Friday night show. I was able to bring home some pretty good cards though. And I will be showing them off to you all day long. So, sit back, relax, have a drink and stay tuned into ’30-YOC’ all day. Enjoy. ...

Yessir, it is the first Friday of the month and as you are reading this I am more than likely at the May baseball card show in Dania Beach. Since the last show, I have been going after a few projects that I am hoping I can enhance with new pick-ups at the show. I am not going to make a lengthy list of cards I am seeking this time around, but I have a general idea of what I am hoping to take home. The goals: Get the last card needed to complete my 2012 Topps Archives Deckle Edge set Get the last card needed to complete my 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen Moonshots set Work on the colored parallel cards from the 2013 Series One Marlins team set 2013 Topps Heritage cards of Giancarlo Stanton 2103 Topps Gypsy Queen singles for my Player Collections Something OLD – I am in a vintage mood and would love to bring home a 40-year old baseball card tonight We’ll see how it goes with these goals, but I am going in extremely optimistic that I will get some help from the dealers and their fully-loaded tables. Check back on Monday for a full report. Have a great weekend everyone!! ...

With that in mind, Topps will be releasing their 2013 Bowman baseball card set next week, and it will definitely satisfy Dodgers collectors worldwide. Based on a checklist I saw last week, Hyun-Jin Ryu will have 3 different cards inserted into packs. There is a base card, a Topps 100 Prospects insert card, and a Chrome Refractor Mini card. Well, today I found out that Topps will also release a 4th card. It is a very limited "Lucky 5" insert redemption autographed card #1. See a preview pic of it above. Lucky fans holding redemption card #1 for the "Lucky 5" bonus card program will receive this card directly from Topps. Look at the intensity in his eyes. No doubt he is about to put down one of the 46 ballplayers he's struck out so far this season. * Please follow on twitter @ernestreyes * * Like Dodgers Blue Heaven on facebook * * Dodgers Blue Heaven home page * ...
