Source: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov --- Thursday, May 23, 2013
Related Articles Biology of primary breast cancer in older Women treated by surgery: with correlation with long-term clinical outcome and comparison with their Younger counterparts. Br J Cancer. 2013 Mar 19;108(5):1042-51 Authors: Syed BM, Green AR, Paish EC, Soria D, Garibaldi J, Morgan L, Morgan DA, Ellis IO, Cheung KL Abstract BACKGROUND: As age advances breast cancer appears to change its biological characteristics, however, very limited data are available to define the precise differences between older and Younger patients. METHODS: Over 36 years (1973-2009), 1758 older (≥70 years) Women with early operable primary breast cancer were managed in a dedicated clinic. In all, 813 underwent primary surgery and 575 good quality tumour samples were available for biological analysis. The pattern of biomarkers was analysed using indirect immunohistochemistry on tissue microarrays. Comparison was made with a previously characterised series of Younger (<70 years) patients. RESULTS: There was high expression of oestrogen receptor (ER), PgR, Bcl2, Muc1, BRCA1 and 2, E-cadherin, luminal cytokeratins, HER3, HER4, MDM2 and 4 and low expression of human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER)-2, Ki67, p53, EGFR and CK17. Oestrogen receptor and axillary stage appeared as independent prognostic factors. Unsupervised partitional clustering showed six biological clusters in older patients, five of which were common in the Younger patients, whereas the ...

This creates a suspension of time, opens a spacious room of your own in which you can walk around and consider your response.
More Younger Women Getting Breast Cancer

Source: www.naturalmedicine.com --- Tuesday, May 21, 2013
By Dr. Mercola Revealing new data from the charity Cancer Research UK reports that a record number of Women under the age of 50 are being diagnosed with breast cancer. For the first time, more than 10,000 Women under 50 were diagnosed with the disease in the UK, which translates to one out of every five Women diagnosed with breast cancer. The news comes on the heels of a JAMA study published earlier this year, which similarly found that the number of young Women (aged 25-39) in the US being diagnosed with advanced breast cancer is also increasing.1 Typically, cancer is much more likely to develop as you get older. The non-profit BreastCancer.org even states:2 “ … the aging process is the biggest risk factor for breast cancer. That’s because the longer we live, there are more opportunities for genetic damage (mutations) in the body. And as we age, our bodies are less capable of repairing genetic damage.” So why is it that so many Younger Women are now being struck by this potentially deadly disease? What is Causing Breast Cancer in Young Women? No one knows for sure, but it’s fairly safe to say that there are likely multiple contributors, many of them environmentally based. Cancer Research UK has singled out hormonal factors, such as having children later in life, having fewer children or taking birth control pills, as probable culprits, for instance. This makes sense, as in 2002 one of the largest and best-designed studies of hormone ...

Source: glpiggy.net --- Saturday, May 18, 2013
Last week I said that Hugo Schwyzer is the community college equivalent of Dr. Drew. Now I’m beginning to think he’s the feminist version of Jonah Leher . In his new gig at The Atlantic, Schwyzer seem to be merely replating his favorite topics that he’s written about at Jezebel and GMP: If there’s one tangible thing that men can do to help end sexism—and create a healthier culture in which young people come of age—it’s to stop chasing after Women young enough to be their biological daughters. As hyperbolic as it may sound, there are few more powerful actions that men can take to transform the culture than to date, mate, and stay with their approximate chronological peers. If aging guys would commit to doing this, everyone would benefit: older men and Younger men, older Women and Younger Women. He then focuses on Hollywood relationships – namely Johnny Depp’s relationship with a woman 23 years Younger (50 versus 27). Schwyzer seems to think that Hollyweird problems run parallel to real world problems. Also, Schwyzer forgets that chicks digg Depp. Schwyzer characterizes all of this as old men chasing young Women. Courtship is rarely a chase. It’s a dance. Many people who concede that older men’s obsession with Younger Women is disillusioning and destabilizing insist that the sexual choices of men like Johnny Depp are driven by natural imperatives. That’s not quite what the science shows. Research on age disparate relationships does ...

Why Do Men Prefer Younger Women?

Source: www.singleblackmale.org --- Thursday, May 16, 2013
<img src="http://www.singleblackmale.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/couples.jpg" & width="150" & height="164" style="margin: 5pt 10px 0px 0px; float: left;" border="1" align="left" alt="" />Growing up they always told us that older men preferred Younger Women. We came up with answers for why this may happen; maybe it was because they kept their looks or maybe it was because Younger Women didn’t have all the baggage of older Women. Being a young gunner in the game, I dated older Women and it didn’t much matter to me what their age was. That was until one day it became clear; I understood why men dated Younger Women. It didn’t have anything to do with their looks or their lack of baggage for me, it had to do with trust. Yes, trust. I recently told myself that I don’t think I’m equipped to date Women my age and it wasn’t because I don’t think they’re beautiful or have a lot to offer. I’ve always been a fan of older Women; I thought they knew what they wanted and how to treat a man. But in my experiences I realized that I just don’t trust them. Newsflash, this will be a personal post. I’m going to turn 29 again this year and one thing I’ve learned is that, “[Women] be mother****** tripping.” I find myself in a barrage of situations where I think I’m on the same page as the woman and then next thing you know… she’s on her own agenda. It’s hard for men to cope with this reaction from Women. We say, “Why can’t we just be cool and that just be it?” but that ain’t cutting it. I know we’re dealing with biological clocks but why is it so hard to be able to trust the words that come out of a woman’s mouth. Well, I know why now. ...

TOKYO: Women's immune systems age more slowly than men's which may contribute to them living longer, according to a new study. Researchers looked at the blood of healthy volunteers in Japan, ranging in age between 20 and 90 years old and found that in both sexes the total number of white blood cells per person decreased with age. The number of neutrophils decreased for both sexes and lymphocytes decreased in men and increased in Women. Younger men generally have higher levels of lymphocytes than similarly aged Women, so as ageing happens, the number of lymphocytes becomes comparable. The rate in decline in T cells and B cells was slower for Women than men, researchers said. The study found CD4+ T cells, white blood cells that are an essential part of the human immune system, and NK cells, a type of lymphocyte, increased with age, and the rate of increase was higher in Women than men. Similarly an age-related decline in IL-6 and IL-10 - a group of signaling molecules - was worse in men. There was also an age-dependent decrease in red blood cells for men but not Women. This difference in the ageing of immune systems between men and Women is one of many processes which alter a ...
