Contrast what Obama administration did with this guy who leaked information to discredit a Whistleblower with what the administration is doing to reporters who obtained information that they are less thrilled by getting out. From the New York Times: The Justice Department’s independent inspector general on Monday criticized a former top federal prosecutor in Arizona, Dennis K. Burke, for leaking to Fox News a document in June 2011 about a federal agent who was raising alarms about the gun trafficking investigation known as Operation Fast and Furious . He called the prosecutor’s actions “particularly egregious” misconduct that was “wholly unbefitting a U.S. attorney.” The 21-page report , by the office of Inspector General Michael Horowitz, filled in new details about the reaction of the Phoenix prosecutor’s office to the furor over a botched investigation into a gun-smuggling network. Arizona-based agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives allowed hundreds of weapons to reach criminal hands. . . . Famed Wikileaks Whistleblower Bradley Manning had his last pre-trial hearing today before his case goes to trial in early June. The hearing revolved around classified information and the fact that much of the court martial will be conducted in closed door sessions, a fact many believe will be used to hide abuse Manning has suffered since his arrest. A post on BradleyManning.org covered the pretrial which has been largely ignored by the corporate and alternative media alike. Judge Denise Lind made two rulings based on the previous closed session, on May 8, when Ambassador Don Yamamoto testified in a ‘dry run.’ In that session, she found that the defense’s proposed alternatives to closing trial during testimony that will elicit classified information – such as using code words, redactions, or substitutions – were inadequate, and therefore the court will be closed for the classified portions of 24 more government witnesses. The government is ordered to speedily provide a (likely heavily redacted) transcript of those closed sessions. Judge Lind also ruled to narrow what the government will be allowed to present when it attempts to prove that Bradley had reason to believe certain classified information could be used to harm the United States if made public. An investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has determined that a contractor at the Wolf Creek Generating Station wrongfully fired an engineer who reported safety violations. An OSHA letter sent last week said Enercon Services Inc. violated the Energy Reoganization Act, a federal law that prohibits retaliation against a nuclear power plant employee or contractor who raises safety concerns. Senator Chuck Grassley, Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, made the following statement after an Office of Inspector General Report showed that U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke leaked a sensitive document to the press regarding a Whistleblower who had come forward with allegations of gunwalking, that he leaked an internal memo regarding Fast and Furious suspect Jaime Avila to the New York Times, and that he lied to Deputy Attorney General James Cole. For almost two decades General Motors (GM) has been in protracted litigation against Whistleblower Roger Thacker. Unfortunately for GM and its creditors, the case just won’t die. The trouble surrounding the lawsuit, including a rollercoaster ride of resurrection through the trial and appellate courts, was, until now, drowned out by the implosion of the automotive industry and subsequent structured bankruptcies. GM and its creditors hope to distribute approximately $50 million laying in a bankruptcy trust, and the undying case of Roger Thacker won’t let that happen. Mr. Thacker filed suit against GM in 1995, along with two other employees, under the federal False Claims Act. According to the allegations of the lawsuit, GM’s gas turbine division was contracted to build generators for destroyer ships and the work of the subcontracted division gas turbine division failed to meet the navy’s requirements. Court of Appeals has affirmed a trial-court ruling tossing a 2011 lawsuit from former employees of the Forsyth County Board of Elections who alleged the board had violated the Whistleblower Act. Among the other opinions released this morning, a three-judge panel unanimously agreed to send back to the N.C.
