Source: www.facebook.com --- Friday, May 03, 2013
So Bucs Nation, Warren Sapp has a big year ahead of him. Not only will he be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but he'll also be inducted into the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ring of Honor. While this is surely a very happy day for Bucs fans it does bring up an interesting question. Is Warren Sapp the greatest Buccaneer of all time? Certainly cases could be made for others like Derrick Brooks and Lee Roy Selmon however there's no denying that Sapp left his mark, not only on the Bucs but also on the NFL. ...

Although as my relatives are quick to point out, there wasn't much worth remembering. Sure, sometimes my father would have their games playing in the background, but again, it was hardly worth spending an afternoon huddled around the television for. Looking back, it seemed all the Bucs did was finish last place year after year and waste their first-round pick on a player that never panned out the next spring. After all, from 1983 to 1994, the Bucs went a combined 51-140 (.267) and owned a Top 10 pick in nine of the corresponding drafts, including the top overall selection twice ('86 and '87). Of all of those Top 10 picks, only T Paul Gruber (No. 4 overall, 1988) lived up to the billing. The Bucs couldn't scout or develop players to save their lives—or their franchise. But in 1995, amidst an ownership change and on the heels of their 12th-consecutive double-digit-loss season, the Bucs' fortunes began to change for the better, because with the 12th overall pick in the 1995 draft, the Bucs selected DT Warren Sapp . And the rest, as they say, is history—loud, boisterous, record-breaking history. From the start, Sapp did things his way and he wasn't afraid to let it be known. Opponents always knew where he was on the field because they'd hear him jawing it up in ...

While there were a few notable offensive players like Warrick Dunn and Keyshawn Johnson, the defense of the late 90s and early 2000s was the highlight of the team. Players like Ronde Barber, John Lynch, Derrick Brooks and of course Warren Sapp, helped lead the Buccaneers to Super Bowl XXXVII in 2002. Ultimately, the Bucs beat the Raiders that year to win the Super Bowl. Eleven years later, one of the members of the 2002 Super Bowl team will be inducted in the team’s Ring of Honor . On November 11, during the team’s Monday Night Football game, former defensive tackle Warren Sapp will be immortalized by joining the Buccaneers’ Ring of Honor. Sapp will become the fifth former player to join the Ring of Honor after Lee Roy Selmon, John McKay, Jimmie Giles and Paul Gruber. After being elected to the NFL Hall of Fame in February, Sapp became the Buccaneers first and only first ballot Hall of Fame member. Sapp spent nine seasons in Tampa Bay before joining Oakland for the 2004 season. During his tenure with the Buccaneers, Sapp went to seven Pro Bowls, had 77 sacks, 310 solo tackles and 15 forced fumbles. Sapp also finished his career with one Super Bowl ring after winning in 2002 with ...

The 2013 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee will have his No. 99 retired by the Buccaneers and will get his name in Tampa's Ring of Honor . He will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August. Sapp will join Lee Roy Selmon, John McKay, Jimmie Giles and Paul Gruber as the fifth member of the Bucs' Ring of Honor. The 12th-overall pick in the 1995 NFL Draft out of Miami, he went off the board after disappointments like Ki-Jana Carter, Michael Westbrook and Mike Mamula. Sapp was a seven-time Pro Bowl and six-time All-Pro defensive tackle who remained healthy and consistent while helping turn the Buccaneers into one of the most feared defenses in the NFL. During his rookie season, the Buccaneers went 7-9 while finishing 27th in total defense, but the arrival of Tony Dungy, Monte Kiffin and the "Tampa Two" defense transformed the team to the league's third-best defense by 1997. Perhaps none of that would have been possible if not for Sapp as one of the best "3-tech" defensive tackles in the NFL. Sapp registered 12.5 sacks in 1999, winning NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors, and then followed that up with ...

Source: cowboysblog.dallasnews.com --- Thursday, May 02, 2013
Jerry Jones says the Dallas Cowboys’ 2013 draft was conducted with an emphasis on adding players who can make an immediate impact. During a Wednesday conference call with Cowboys season-ticket holders, the Cowboys owner and GM explained that philosophy. “This draft was to get these players on the field right now,” Jones said. “[Tony] Romo got the money that we gave him because of right now. Certainly we’re interested in five years from now, but we’re interested in right now.” Well, this particular post isn’t concerned with right now. Yes, it’s way too early to predict how the Cowboys will perform in 2013, and nobody knows how the draft stock of the top collegiate players will look a year from now. But 2014 mock drafts are already surfacing. Not into looking that far ahead? Oh well. Here are a few for those who don’t mind year-in-advance projections. SI.com’s Chris Burke: 17th overall pick: Cyrus Kouandjio, OT, Alabama. Comment: “Kouandjio could climb much higher than this. He was the starting left tackle last season for Alabama’s dominant line, and he could climb into the top five with another standout season.” SBNation.com’s Dan Kadar: 17th overall pick: Ha’Sean Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama. Comment: “Will Allen signed just a one-year contract with the Cowboys, and Clinton-Dix looks to be a similar caliber of player as Mark Barron.” WalterFootball.com’s Walter Cherepinsky: 13th overall pick: Stephon Tuitt, DT, Notre Dame. Comment: “P ...

The Bucs established the Ring five years ago, and have added one player each year. The Bucs will hold the induction ceremony on Monday Night Football against the Miami Dolphins on November 11, with his former head coach Jon Gruden in the booth. Sapp was one of the most successful players in Buccaneers history, with seven Pro Bowls, six All-Pro selections and two All-Decade selections. He was the motor of the late '90s/early '00s Buccaneers, and was a key part of the 2002 Super Bowl team. Not only will Sapp enter the Ring of Honor, but the Buccaneers will retire his famed number 99 during that same ceremony. Sapp will be just the second Buccaneer to have his number retired, with the late, great Lee Roy Selmon's number 63 being the only other number which will officially not be worn by anyone else in a Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniform.

Source: bleacherreport.com --- Thursday, May 02, 2013
Defensive tackle Warren Sapp was a huge part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ' Super Bowl XXXVII championship team and he anchored their defense from 1995 through 2003. Sapp will be rewarded for his efforts as a Buc when the team retires his No. 99 jersey during the upcoming season. According to the Buccaneers' official Twitter feed , Bucs owner Bryan Glazer announced that the 2013 Pro Football Hall of Famer will have his iconic jersey retired this year. Sapp is synonymous with the Buccaneers, so it is certainly fitting that he will be immortalized by the franchise for generations to come. Sapp is easily one of the greatest defensive tackles of all time and that much was apparent very early in his career. Sapp retired following the 2007 season with seven Pro Bowl appearances to his credit as well as six All-Pro selections and Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1999. He was a perfect fit in the Buccaneers’ famous “Tampa 2” defensive system as he was a penetrating tackle who rushed the quarterback with reckless abandon. Sapp retired with 96.5 career sacks, which puts him 34th on the all-time list. That is extremely impressive considering the fact that most of the players ahead of him were defensive ends or rush linebackers. Sapp was well known for his prowess as a defender, but his wild antics and outgoing personality made him popular among Bucs fans and hated by the opposition. There were a lot of important contributors to the Buc ...
