In 2007, John Maloof purchased a giant box of never-developed photo negatives from an auction house in Chicago. What he found was a vast collection of incredible street photography by Vivian Maier, since passed, who worked as a nanny most of her life and shot street scenes in New York and Chicago throughout the 1950s and 60s. Her work is now a treasure to the art world, along with the mystique of her story. Vivian never shared her work or passion with even close friends. Now you can browse the collection online at vivianmaier.com — it’s such a treat. And Maloof is releasing a documentary “ Finding Vivian Maire ,” which is still in production.
