At the camp, Rivals noted [he], "attacked off the dribble and showed a lot of burst getting to the rim." Johnson, who holds an offer from 'Nova , told CBS Sports that the Wildcats, along with Wake Forest and Alabama are " coming in strong ". After surviving the cutdown to a roster of 16 players, Arcidiacono was not able to push for inclusion in the top-12 players who will represent the United States at the Under-19 World Championships in Prague this summer. The team, coached by Florida's Billy Donovan, was selected by a committee of Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim, Davidson’s Bob McKillop, Washington’s Lorenzo Romar, Purdue’s Matt Painter, and Villanova alumnus Curtis Sumpter. "Getting down to 12 is the real hard part because in a lot of respects we easy could have kept 14-15," Donovan said in a statement. "There were some tough decisions, difficult decisions, but I think we feel overall that we have selected an athletic and versatile team. Our style of play will be an aggressive, up-tempo, running, pressing style." As a freshman at Villanova, Arcidiacono averaged 11.9 points and 3.5 assists and was a unanimous addition to the Big East All-Rookie team. ...

Still, they could very well be one of the most underrated teams in the Big East entering the 2013-14 college basketball season. Marquette and Georgetown are getting a lot of hype in the conference–as they should–but Villanova is not way behind them or anything like that. Even Butler is getting a lot of hype, who lost its best player, and Creighton is being considered a force, since Doug McDermott will be back. St. John’s is returning a lot of talent, so it is also being talked about quite a bit. This is completely fine, but how many people are giving the Wildcats a chance to compete in the new Big East? Most likely, not a whole lot. Well, the leading scorer will be back, along with some other talented players. This is a Jay Wright coached team, which means it should dance and no one can count it out. Last season, Villanova beat three top five teams and finished four games back in the Big East standings. That is not bad for a team that was not expected to compete against Louisville or Syracuse . Villanova beat both of those teams last season for the record. The new Big East is honestly pretty stacked and Villanova would have to overachieve to win the conference, but no one should take it lightly. The Wildcats are coming off of a 20-win season and they should win even more in the upcoming season. Finishing in the top t ...

Source: cityofbasketballlove.com --- Monday, June 17, 2013
Tim Gallagher ( @TimCGallagher ) – Saint garnering high-academic interest This is a big year for Neumann-Goretti forward Tony Toplyn . The 6-6, 200-pound forward started all last season, averaging 5.5 ppg on a team that went 23-9 and won its fifth-straight Catholic League title before losing to Donegale in the PIAA Class AAA quarterfinals. Now, as one of the Saints’ seniors, Toplyn will have to be a bit more vocal on the court and grow into a leader for Neumann Goretti. With the departure of senior John Davis–a tough 6-foot-5 forward–to Towson, there is a big gap in the Neumann-Goretti frontcourt that Toplyn is going to have to help fill. As a swing forward, he can defend the post well and also step outside to hit the mid range jump shot. The lefty is crafty around the basket, and his length allows him to guard the two through the four on the defensive end. Toplyn expressed that his biggest weakness was ball handling, but summer camps and AAU play against top competition will definitely help. With a 3.5 GPA at the Catholic League school, Toplyn is getting looks from a number of high-academic schools. Though he’s still waiting on his first D-I offer, Toplyn said he has received interest from Penn, Princeton, Binghamton, Towson, Niagra and other mid-majors. CR North powered by a Riptide ‘Play hard, play smart, and play together’ is the motto coaches pass down to their players at Council Rock North. The school had a great season las ...

He was a first-team all-Suburban One League Continental Conference selection as both an offensive and defensive player. The Philadelphia Inquirer's Rick O'Brien broke the news late on Monday night. The 6-2 two-way athlete will likely factor in as a defensive player for Villanova, playing nose guard, in the middle of what has been a strong defensive line for the Wildcats' in recent years. The Inquirer named him 11th on their list of top-25 southeastern Pennsylvania football recruits in the class of 2014, and he was included in a list of the top-10 interior defensive linemen in the area as well. He plays in a 3-4 defensive scheme at Souderton — which should make for an easy transition to Villanova's 3-3-5 — and has accumulated 95 career tackles so far. He accumulated 91 pancakes as a right tackle on the offensive line, and also participates on Souderton's varsity wrestling team. At Villanova he will be able to work his way into the mix on a defensive line that will graduate stars Rakim Cox, Antoine Lewis and key player Keelan Malone after the 2013 season. His size on the inside is comparable to Lewis, who has started at nose guard for the past two seasons. Young is a good academic prospect as well, reportedly claiming to maintain a 3.8 GPA over the last three years, while accumula ...

Source: stlsportsminute.com --- Thursday, June 13, 2013
On Wednesday, Saint Louis University head basketball coach Jim Crews announced that Villanova transfer Achraf “Ash” Yacoubou has been added to the Billiken roster. Here is what Crews said at the announcement, “Ash is a high-character, high-motor young man who has been coached at a high level during his prep career and in college. We are excited to get to work with Ash, and with a year of hard work, we think he will step in and contribute right away in 2014-15.” Yacoubou will not be eligible until the 2014-15 season due to the NCAA transfer rules. The 6-foot-4 guard was named the 2011 Gatorade New York State Player of the Year while at Long Island Lutheran High School. He averaged 19.0 ppg and 9.0 rpg as a senior in high school. During his Wildcat career at Villanova, Yacoubou made three starts and appeared in a total of 57 games. His high-point game in college came against Penn, when the guard scored 13 points. Last season, Yacoubou knocked down a 3-pointer late in the game against Louisville in a Wildcat nine-point over the future national champions on Jan. 22 . Yacoubou played against the Billikens in the semifinals of the 76 Classic in Anaheim in 2011. Saint Louis beat Villanova 80-68.

Source: wnst.net --- Wednesday, June 12, 2013
BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins men’s lacrosse coach Dave Pietramala announced the addition of Ohio State and Villanova to the Blue Jays’ 2014 schedule today. Both games will take place at Johns Hopkins’ Homewood Field. The addition of the Buckeyes and Wildcats will end the current scheduling agreements Johns Hopkins has with Siena and Army. Tentatively, the Blue Jays will open the 2014 season against Ohio State with a late-season midweek game against Villanova. The complete 2014 Johns Hopkins men’s lacrosse schedule, with game dates and times, should be available in October. Johns Hopkins and Ohio State have meet four times previously with all four meetings taking place between 1999 and 2002. Johns Hopkins won all four of those games, including a 12-9 decision at Ohio State in the teams’ last meeting during the 2002 season. PIetramala is 3-0 all-time against Ohio State, with two of those three wins coming during his tenure as the head coach at Johns Hopkins. Ohio State posted a 13-4 record, won the ECAC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2013. Villanova was a regular on the Johns Hopkins schedule from 1997-2002 as the teams met six times during that period. Johns Hopkins won all six of those games and took a 10-7 decision at Villanova in the teams’ last meeting midway through the 2002 season. The Wildcats shared the 2013 BIG EAST regular season title and advanced to the league championship game before falling to ...

Villanova football returns to PPL Park against Delaware this Fall

Source: www.vuhoops.com --- Wednesday, June 12, 2013
<img src="http://cdn1.sbnation.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/14665319/bmks3ymceaek05v.0_standard_400.0.jpg" & width="150" & height="100" style="margin: 5pt 10px 0px 0px; float: left;" border="1" align="left" alt="" />Season ticket renewals are out for the 2013 season, and for those Villanova football fans who received one, the University has quietly inserted a line item noting that the annual Delaware rivalry game will be played in Chester, PA this season. Like the last installment of the rivalry at Villanova in 2011, the school will shift it's home field to the larger and more convenient PPL Park in November. The 2011 game was a good one, despite one of Villanova's weaker seasons in recent memory, and the home team was in it until the end. With a reported attendance of a few thousand more patrons than what Villanova Stadium can seat, the 'Cats found the motivation to try again at the Philadelphia Union home field. Ticket renewals are due on July 31. The PPL Park tickets will cost season ticket holders more than the other four games. With prices starting at $25 each, they are more than twice as expensive as the lower tier package for the other four games (approximately $11.25 each). Villanova claims that these prices are a 20% discount over the regular game day ticket prices. The most expensive away game ticket for fans will be the November 11th game at James Madison at $38 per seat, while the August 31st game against Boston College comes in second at $30. Season ticket holders travelling to the Bronx in September can watch the 'Cats in action at Fordham for just $15, tied for the cheapest away ticket, along with Rhode Island. The September 21 ...
