Source: blogs.forrester.com --- Monday, May 20, 2013
There is a staggering amount of customer experience work going on in the healthcare industry these days. From providers (the docs), to pharma companies and payers (health insurers), everyone is trying to figure out what to do and how to do it. One guy who's figured out a lot is David Shapiro, who wowed members of Forrester's Customer Experience Council last year with a presentation of how UnitedHealth Group uses journey maps to transform experiences. David is the vice president of member experience for Medicare and retirement at UnitedHealth, and he's one of the speakers at Forrester's Forum For Customer Experience Professionals East on June 25th and 26th in New York . In advance of his speech, we put some questions to David about the evolution of customer experience at his organization. Q. When did your company first begin focusing on customer experience? Why? Our Medicare members' experience with their plan has always been important to us because of the way Medicare plans are sold. Unlike commercial insurance, which typically allows employees to choose from a small group of plans that their employer selected for them, Medicare is a true B2C industry. Beneficiaries have the opportunity to select the plan or plans that meet their needs when they first become eligible, and then annually they can switch to a different plan if they choose. These dynamics, combined with the exponential growth in the senior population as baby boomers ...

Source: www.insidermonkey.com --- Tuesday, May 14, 2013
<img src="http://cdn2.insidermonkey.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/united-health-group-logo-300x225.jpg" & width="150" & height="112" style="margin: 5pt 10px 0px 0px; float: left;" border="1" align="left" alt="" />What are the biggest health problems in the U.S.? It depends on whom you ask. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would put heart disease at the top of the list, since it’s the leading cause of death in the nation. If we looked to Google for an answer, Americans searched for information about hemorrhoids more than any other health problem in 2012. Probably the best source to ask about the biggest health problems facing Americans, though, are Americans themselves. Here are the top eight health problems identified by U.S. respondents in a 2012 Gallup poll. 1. Access For the 10th year in a row, Americans listed access to health care as one of their top two concerns. Obamacare’s mandate that individuals purchase insurance goes into effect in 2014, so it will be interesting to see if this issue remains near the top of the list. For now, nearly a quarter of all Americans view access as the nation’s most significant health issue. 2. Cost The high cost of health care has also ranked in the top two problems cited by Americans since 2003. If health insurance company predictions come true, expect this issue to stay among American’s top concerns. Aetna Inc. (NYSE: AET ) CEO Mark Bertolini said that a “premium rate shock” was in store for next year with some insurance premiums doubling. Bertolini isn’t alone with this line of thinking. UnitedHealth Group Inc. (NYSE: UNH ) warned brokers earlier this year that some customers could s ...

Since then, though, the Dow has advanced to yet higher records 17 times, with yesterday’s new record marking gains of more than 850 points from the March 5 close. Many investors thought that as soon as the Dow finally matched its late-2007 highs, it would inevitably have to correct. But thanks to some extremely strong performance from some of its component stocks, the Dow has been able to keep moving higher. Let’s take a look at the four stocks that have advanced the most since the Dow’s initial March 5 record close. The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA ) , up 20.4% For The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) to top the list of Dow performers since early March comes as little surprise to those who’ve followed the tale of the beleaguered aircraft maker. Two months ago, The Boeing Company (NYSE:BA) was still embroiled in the controversy over its 787 Dreamliner aircraft, which had been grounded because of fire risks in its lithium-ion battery systems. Yet the company has now gotten FAA approval for a solution to the battery problem, and airlines in the U.S. and Japan expect to start flying their aircraft again in the next month. With the 787 episode hopefully behind it, Boeing can focus once more on meeting production quotas and getting its backlog of orders worked down. The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) , up 19% For The Walt Disney Compan ...
