AKTV/Paolo Papa Barako Bull found itself involved in a fight-marred semis match in an invitational tournament in Dubai Friday night, an experience that the team hopes will toughen it up for the Governors’ Cup. The commotion started when a Lebanese defender hit Danny Seigle, who retaliated by pushing his man, receiving a technical foul in the process. Seigle hardly saw action in the second haldf while import prospect Mike Singletary played in foul trouble throughout the match as the Energy Colas fell short against Hoops Lebanon, 81-80. Although Toroman gave credit to the solid plays of their Lebanese counterparts, he felt the Energy Colas didn’t get the breaks from the referees. “They were extremely good with the help of the referees, who gave them 40 free throws,” wrote Toroman in a text message to InterAKTV. Despite failing to advance to the championship round, Toroman saw a lot of positive things from his team. “I am very positive about our way of playing. Even this game, we should have won it. We had 8-of-18 treys and 23-of-46 from the two-point range. We also made 10-of-12 free throw attempts,” he said. “We try to build up the atmosphere and chemistry in the team and I think it was very good.” The tournament also gave Toroman and the coaching staff a closer look at what Singletary can do for the team.
