Post by Sasha Brown-Worsham Teen Mom Kailyn Lowry has made no secret of the fact that she is 100 percent in support of gay rights. She posed (WITH her ex-boyfriend and baby daddy, Jo Rivera) for a NoH8 campaign a couple years ago and vocalized her support on Twitter and in interviews. But a photo shoot she recently let Isaac do with her husband Javi Marroquin has Jo all in a tizzy. The photo shows toddler Isaac between Javi and model Wesley Watkins as if he is their son. Kailyn organized the shoot with photographer Kate Hedrick as part of her support for gay marriage. Meanwhile, Jo said it "made him sick." Someone else called him out, and he said while he was all for equality, he didn't like his son being used this way in a photo like this. Hmmm. Unfortunately, I see his point. While I completely disagree with Jo politically and I absolutely think Isaac is lucky to be raised by a Mom with such liberal, open values, I also think this is something Kailyn probably should have discussed with Jo first. Kailyn has every right to teach her son her values. But it's entirely different to use their child's image to promote her agenda in a way that a) implies Javi is his father, or b) publicizes the child without the consent of the father. Not knowing their custody arrangement, I can't speak to the legality of this issue, but from a moral standpoint, it does seem a little odd that she would choose to do this and not tell his dad. Go Cozy - This local five piece has a highly interesting take on dream pop music. Each song had its own character while retaining a core sound. The core is a soft pop vocal style that carries the song forward. Underneath they vary from the brilliant krautrock jam opener to a soft funkier cut coming later. The key was in the bass lines which went from flowing to choppy (while in rhythm) along with a powerful drummer working a very small kit. The keyboards filled and allowed the guitarists to cut and slash, go with the flow or create surprising volume bursts. Very nicely done over a 39 minute set that breezed by. Other Factors - I was thrilled to hear from this Brooklyn trio who were formerly known as Mercies, when they operated out of DC in the previous few years. They were finishing a 25-day tour through the midwest, south and east tonight before heading back to their 'new' hometown. I always thought they were a solid band and through the maturity of time and the tests of the road, they came back to DC better than ever. I sensed even more creativity in the vocal work with two lead vocalists working well together on harmonies, but cutting in and out of the song for solo moments as well. The vocal patterns were almost as varied as was in their music where they combine post punk fury with intricate pop moves at various paces and volumes. If this was gold instead of silver, didn't have crystals and hearts, and came with a different chain, I'd be all over this bad boy.
