Garcia, 33, was asked if he would have WOODS round for dinner to settle their recent argument and joked that he would serve fried chicken. Fried chicken is a food stereotypically associated with black people in the American deep south. Garcia said: "I apologise for any offence.

Source: bleacherreport.com --- Tuesday, May 21, 2013
TIGER WOODS has two homes. One of them is in Jupiter, Fla. The other is in Sergio Garcia's head. The unfriendly rivalry between the two continues to spin out of control. Garcia decided to utter a racist remark at TIGER's expense while attending a European Tour awards dinner in England Tuesday. According to Ewan Murray of the British newspaper The Guardian , Garcia was asked by moderator Steve Sands if he would be having dinner with TIGER WOODS during the U.S. Open. "We will have him 'round every night," García said. "We will serve fried chicken." Garcia has apologized for his remarks, but it's hard to excuse his racial insensitivity. Garcia said the question was meant as a joke and so was his response. “I apologize for any offense that may have been caused by my comment on stage during the European Tour Players' Awards dinner," Garcia explained through CBSSports.com "I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner.” Nobody's buying that explanation. When the two played together in the third round of The Players Championship in Florida earlier this month, Garcia took umbrage with WOODS for taking a club out of his bag just as the Spaniard was preparing to hit early in the third round. Garcia shot WOODS a look at the time, and he appeared to be on edge throughout the rest of the round. In the final round, WOODS and Garcia continued to duel ...

Unfortunately, the war of words between the rival golfers had to get particularly ugly before it was made. While attending the European Tour's Players’ Awards dinner in London on Tuesday evening, Garcia turned to a racial stereotype about African-Americans while apparently attempting to make a joke about his contentious relationship with WOODS. As first reported by The Guardian , Garcia made the offensive remark when jokingly asked by the event's emcee, Steve Sands of The Golf Channel, if he would be inviting WOODS over for dinner during the upcoming U.S. Open. Garcia hit a terrible shot on a par-5 second hole at The Players Championship, and blamed WOODS for the miss, since WOODS was pulling a club out of his bag, and the onlookers cheered as Garcia was lined up over the ball. He could've backed off, but he decided to power through anyway, and his shot went into the trees. He blamed TIGER. Bloody stuff, this. Anyway, yesterday, WOODS was asked if he was going to nip this beef in the bud. "No," WOODS said, as is his prerogative. Garcia got pissed, or at least miffed, and had this to say. Per Golf.com : "He called me a whiner. He's probably right," Garcia said Monday at Wentworth, England, at the start of the week of the BMW PGA Championship. "But that's also probably the first thing he's told you guys that's true in 15 years. I know what he's like. You guys are finding out." Shots fired! It still wasn't much of a fight until, according to The Guardian , Garcia escalated things yesterday. He was questioned about his relationship with WOODS, and he responded relatively reasonably, saying, "I mean, you can't like everybody. I think that there's people that you connect with and there's people that you don't. You know, it's pretty much as simple as that. I think that he doesn't need me in his life, I d ...

Source: bleacherreport.com --- Tuesday, May 21, 2013
The feud between Sergio Garcia and TIGER WOODS was taken to another level on Tuesday night. According to The Guardian 's Ewan Murray , Garcia was at the European Tour's gala players' awards dinner, where he was asked a question about WOODS. His answer could be construed as a racist remark: Garcia was asked in jest if he would have the American round for dinner one night during the upcoming US Open. "We will have him round every night," García said. "We will serve fried chicken." Later on, the Spaniard apologized, saying that his comment was a "silly remark" and not meant to come off in a "racist manner." No matter what Garcia meant with his comments, this will likely serve as yet another landmark in the ongoing spat between the two golfers. Garcia's unfortunate choice of words brought to mind Fuzzy Zoeller's offensive remarks after WOODS won his first major back in 1997 at Augusta. Zoeller was quoted as saying of WOODS' win, "You pat him on the back and say congratulations and enjoy it and tell him not serve fried chicken next year. Got it? Or collard greens or whatever the hell they serve." The winner of the Masters traditionally chooses the champions' dinner menu for the following year's tournament. Zoeller later apologized. While WOODS and Garcia have more or less been rivals for more than a decade, fuel was seriously added to the fire earlier this month at The Players Championship . As he was getting ready to play his se ...

Garcia has been at odds with WOODS over what he perceives as WOODS’ poor golf etiquette, following The Players Championship two weeks ago. When asked in jest at a European tour function if he’d be inviting TIGER WOODS to dinner for next month’s US Open, Sergio told Britain’s The Guardian: “We’ll have him round every night,…We will serve fried chicken.” Garcia later issued an apology after leaving the function “I apologize for any offense that may have been caused by my comment on stage during the European Tour Players’ Awards dinner,..I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner.” Garcia has made it well known that he’s not a fan of WOODS and vice versa, but was what he said necessarily racist? Maybe there’s a misunderstanding due to cultural differences, with Sergio being from Spain, one would think maybe he doesn’t quite grasp the depth of that stereotype and the offense it causes. Should Sergio’s remarks be forgiven? H/T: ESPN ...

In her wildest dreams four years ago, did Elin Nordegren ever think that her kids would be driven to school by Lindsey Vonn? (She's done it solo as well). Elin's Swedish, and Lindsey's a skier, so it's all good I guess. Just a little hard to believe. Look, I ...

This time, however, the comments have progressed from criticism to mockery, with racial undertones that have already led the golfer to issue an apology. Ewan Murray of The Guardian has the details of a Garcia "fried chicken " remark that will instantly force comparisons to the remarks made by Fuzzy Zoeller about TIGER and the Masters Champions Dinner in 1997. Garcia made the remarks at a pre-tournament event before this week's BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, a highlight on the European Tour's calendar. The setup and Sergio's remark, via Murray of The Guardian : The Spaniard was on stage at the European Tour's gala players' awards dinner, where he was questioned by the Golf Channel's Steve Sands. García, who has been embroiled in verbal battles with WOODS since the Players Championship at Sawgrass this month, was asked in jest if he would have the American round for dinner one night during the upcoming US Open. "We will have him round every night," García said. "We will serve fried chicken." ( h/t to Geoff Shackelford ) The comments were made at a European Tour gala dinner, but Garcia had already issued a statement through the Euro Tour and apologized before the end of the night in England ( via Murray/Guardian ): "I apologise for any offence that may have been caused by my comment on stage during The European Tour P ...

Sergio Garcia Should Probably Refrain From Hurling ‘Fried Chicken Jokes’ At Tiger Woods

Photograph: Richard Heathcote/Getty Images Sergio Garcia and TIGER WOODS have been in a bit of a spat over the past couple weeks starting at the Players Championship at Sawgrass , and it looks like it isn’t going to end anytime soon. Sergio Garcia has done a great job of putting his foot in his own mouth in the latest layer of the saga. Sergio was attending the European Tour’s gala players’ awards dinner when he fielded a question from Golf Channel’s Steve Sands. According to the Guardian , Steve asked Sergio is he would have TIGER WOODS over for dinner one night during the upcoming US Open. “We will have him round every night,” García said. “We will serve fried chicken.” Sergio did not apologize immediately for the remark which many observe as being racist, but he did release a statement shortly after through the European Tour: “I apologise for any offence that may have been caused by my comment on stage during The European Tour Players’ Awards dinner. I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner.” Joking or not, there is no excuse for a statement like that. If you are thinking to yourself that this story seems familiar maybe the below video will jolt your memory. [ ...
