We only had 10 miles to drive to our goal location #2, but it took us at least 30 minutes to get there. We got waylayed by wind. Literally . We were driving through "wind farms" and they were beautiful!! We also paused for a view of Mt. Adams. Next, we arrived at the Maryhill Museum, situated on a cliff overlooking the Columbia River. This museum used to be a mansion belonging to Samuel Hill. Hill was a wealthy Quaker who came to this area from Europe to establish a Quaker community. He started building a mansion for himself and his wife, plus a post office, a hotel, and a general store. For some reason, he also constructed a replica of Stonehenge, in its original form. Unfortunately, the rest of his Quaker community never showed up. The town buildings went to waste. And he never finished the inside of his mansion, but instead turned it into an art museum. He was very good friends with Queen Marie of Romania, and many of the exhibits on the main floor of the museum once belonged to her. Honestly, I really didn't care for much of the art. And the non-art exhibits were so random and weird- like the room full of chess sets from all over the world in all different time periods- or the fancy doll dresses - or the room full of Native American artifacts....it was seemed to be a random collection of stuff that didn't go together. But the house in general was ...

Source: www.proactiveinvestors.com.au --- Monday, May 20, 2013
South Korea focused Stonehenge Metals ( ASX:SHE ) has been queried by the ASX to explain a 76 per cent rise in the share price. While Stonehenge said in a statement it could not offer any information not already announced, beyond preliminary hand held XRF results, released on 1 May from the Daejon Project. These result did indicate a mineralised zone of uranium that may be larger than first thought with significant vanadium grades as well. Assay results are still pending, combined with reappraisal of the existing significant uranium resource and possibility of vanadium credits could augure well for project economics. Results from the first hole of a 12 hole diamond drilling programme at the Daejon Project had an intercept of 69 metres true width of mineralised zone averaging 262ppm uranium and 4117ppm vanadium. When the vanadium is converted to uranium this shows a combined grade of 1754ppm equivalent total uranium at highest reading. Proactive Investors Australia is the market leader in producing news, articles and research reports on ASX “Small and Mid-cap” stocks with distribution in Australia, UK, North America and Hong Kong / China. ...

Cheers and boos: Stonehenge puzzle, Government speaks out and a waste of time

Source: heritageaction.wordpress.com --- Sunday, May 19, 2013
A Stonehenge puzzle The new Stonehenge land trains will carry a maximum of 900 visitor per hour whereas up to 35,000 people have turned up at summer solstice previously. So what’s to be done? Well presumably while most visitors will soon be asked to co-operate in the “splendid isolation” project by parking some distance away and using the land train and those who take part in the winter lantern parade happily use shanks’ pony, summer solstice attendees will be provided with a convenient, free car park close to the stones, opened up specially for them. If anyone can explain this puzzle please leave a Comment below. There’s a prize. Government speaks out at last! The Government of Belize has condemned the deliberate bulldozing of a 2,300 year old monument as “ ignorant and unforgivable ” and says that such cultural landmarks should be protected at all costs and that the “ disdain for our laws and policies is incomprehensible .” The millionaire culprit will offer to finance research into what is no longer there and be given a £4,000 fine and a slapped wrist. Oh no, sorry, that last bit applies to the bulldozing of Priddy Henges, a monument in southern England that’s twice as old! A waste of time Metal detectorists are running a petition against the use of contaminated green waste on fields. Quite right if it’s a health hazard. However they also complain that bits of metal in the waste is ruining their hobby. The Government isn’t likely t ...
