This is one of the most used resources on the Internet. Billions of people around the world use them to interact, share knowledge and experience, product sales. Obviously, there are many factors of user behavior on the Internet, and now we do not talk about them because today we have decided to share with you some cheat sheets that will help marketers from around the world to talk about their product or services. First of all, I would like to start with the visual aspect of profiles in Social Networks. Since today there are so many Social Networks, we would like to focus on more popular and recognized one of them. The images below can be used as a template to create the correct size advertising. 01. Facebook Facebook gives us a lot of possibilities in terms of advertising, but you will need to keep within the permitted size of the images as they are either too big or too small: * The picture in the Chronicle – 843 x 403 px; * Photos of your status in the Chronicle – 403 x 403 px; * Advertising in Facebook – 100 x 72px (all images are automatically resized). 02. Twitter If you prefer the micro-blogging, then Twitter – it’s just what you need, but do not forget to wrap your profile in a nice wrapper. 03. LinkedIn LinkedIn is a Social network for people who are professionally engaged in any field. Adam has the goal of becoming either a songwriter or a screenwriter, but at the time Turkle meets him, he is just trying to make ends meet so that he can work on his passion projects. There’s a problem, though. Adam is not feeling productive or validated in anything he is doing in his real life. As a release, he turns to two online games, and slowly, his online reality becomes far more pleasurable and rewarding than his real life . In playing Civilization, for example, Adam is a ruler, a monarch. He can save “people.” He can earn loyalty from his subjects. Heck, he can save the world. Adam is finding himself playing these games for 15-hour-long stretches. When he stops playing he gets depressed almost immediately. What really got my attention about this story was not these details, however. It was a much smaller portion of the story. Adam tells Turkle he once met a great woman named Erin. They had played online Scrabble together. Adam describes her as his best friend and confidante and then mentions he has lost track of her. “She moved on to a different game.” From best friend to nothing in 60 seconds. What does this say about Erin’s status as a best friend? What does it say about Adam that he refers to a passing online acquaintance in those terms? The point of Turkle’s book is that while Social media connects us, it also dehumanizes us . J ...

The six-notch downgrade to ‘junk’ status was in response to the bank’s weak capital position, with the ratings agency indicating that the bank may require “external support” to strengthen its balance sheet. Many were surprised at the scale of the downgrade, and since then the bank has been reassuring customers that it would not need external support. Using YouGov’s Social media analysis tool, SoMA, we can see how the news of the downgrade played out on Social networking sites. On Twitter we can see that 13.8% of the Twitter population heard about The Co-Operative Bank on 10 May, compared to 0.5% on the previous day, while on Facebook the amount of people who heard about the Co-op Bank rose to 0.51% of the Facebook population, compared to 0% on the day prior to the downgrade. Although the Facebook numbers seem small, the larger number of Facebook users (around 30 million) makes them significant. However, by looking at the two most popular words on each of the Social Networks, it seems that the nature of the messages heard on Facebook had a more serious undertone. While the two most popular words mentioned alongside The Co-op Bank on Twitter were ‘Moody’ and ‘downgrade’, on Facebook they were ‘worrying’ and ‘union’. The prevalent message on Facebook referred to a Guardian article which noted how the Bank had reas ...

But what if their message is one of hate? The Simon Wiesenthal Center , a Los Angeles-based group working against global racism, has compiled a list of hundreds of websites it deems hateful and is pushing their host sites to remove them. They range from a white supremacist motorcycle group's blog, to the sale of a Nazi-era ring on eBay. The group's associate dean, Rabbi Abraham Cooper, recently spoke at a briefing on Capitol Hill, where he described the group's efforts and what they're up against. After the terrorist attacks of 9/11, said Cooper, many experts were concerned about U.S. homegrown militants -- such as neoNazis and KKK members -- adopting al-Qaida-like tactics, but instead al-Qaida has co-opted theirs by using the Internet to spread its message of violence and to recruit members. The ease of communication that the Internet brings is supplying groups seeking to do harm with a tool to inspire bad behavior in others, he said. Cooper and his organization are hoping to convince Social Networks, which have their own guidelines and standards, to become more proactive in taking down objectionable content, rather than waiting for users to flag it.
