Now a mere two days later the amount is bumping up against $400,000 (and will probably have reached it by the time this article is posted). The team have posted an update saying the additional funds will be used to promote the developer network around their watches, which is due for shipment in December, by improving documentation and by holding hackathons around the world to developer apps. In addition they are enhancing the Watch slightly with features like the choice of a leather or silicon wrist strap and possible engravings. The Kickstarter will remain open for a few more weeks, and readers can still get their hands on the $250 Watch for $149, with only around 1200 slots at that tier still available. Despite some expectations that the device could launch later this year, Kuo believes that both hardware and software issues will result in the iWatch making its debut in the second half of 2014. Quote: Apple may not have adequate resources to develop an iWatch version of iOS because it may require big changes to iPhone and iPad iOS this year. In addition, wearable device components aren't mature. For these reasons, we think mass production of the iWatch is more likely to begin in 2H14, not 2H13 as the market speculates. Sony SmartWatch (left) and Pebble e-paper Watch (right) On the hardware front, Kuo projects that the iWatch will use a 1.5-2.0 inch display and unsurprisingly believes that Apple will draw on the iPod nano when it comes to components, particularly with respect to the main processor and the touch technology. Quote: Currently, the iPod nano uses the same GF2 touch technology as used by the iPad mini. Since the size and computing ability requirements of the iWatch are similar to those of the iPod nano, we think iWatch will use iPod nano's GF2 touch technology and AP [application processor]. Further, Kuo believes that biometrics will be a key feature for the iW ...

Now Secret Agent, the company behind the popular Netduino products, are in the process of creating their own Smart Watch, and are raising $100,000 on Kickstarter to help with the effort. Their Watch will be waterproof, charge via the Qi standard, just like our Lumias, run on a dual-core processor and on .Net micro-framework and promises 7 day battery life. The best of all however is that besides iPhone and Android support, the team is also promising to support Windows Phone 8. The Kickstarter fundraiser closes on June 20th, and has already raised $43,000 in just a few hours. If you get in early you can get the $250 Watch for only $129, with delivery hopefully in December or soon after. The Japanese blog points to today’s edition of Taiwanese newspaper the Economic Times , providing juicy news on the anticipated new product Apple is reportedly working on. The first report says RiTdisplay was supposed to receive orders for an 1.8-inch OLED display, but Apple has decided to go with a smaller, 1.5-inch OLED display that uses one-glass-touch sensors, allowing a thin design for the product. This report appears to reinforce a December rumour noting that Apple’s Smart Watch will sport a 1.5-inch OLED display, manufactured by RiTdisplay. The second report points to Foxconn, which allegedly received orders for Apple’s Smart Watch. However, the Taiwanese sources have knowledge only a small volume of Smart watches (just over 1,000 units), which could mean the gadget is in the early testing phase. Rumors of an iWatch surfaced earlier this year, when a couple of reports claimed that Apple is developing a Smart Watch. Bloomberg claimed that the company has a team of 100 designers working on the project. The company also released the next evolution of its official SDK , now known as the PebbleKit. Led by Charles River Ventures, the $15 million Series A isn't the biggest amount of funding we've seen in the hardware space, but it's impressive when you consider the context of the round — and Pebble's crowdfunding roots . As per recent reports, the guys at Google are currently spending their nights up, working on a Google Smart-Watch. The device is said to use similar technology like the Google Glass and will keep wearers updated on the go! The Watch will also hook up to Gmail, Google Maps and other Android-based applications. The Watch is said to be lined up for a near-future release and has been currently doing the rounds of Google’s offices in Berlin, Manchester and Mountain View. With Google’s I/O event just around the corner, the Watch could very well see the light of the day soon! We aren’t hoping for too much as of now though and from what we’ve heard, the Watch isn’t yet a standalone device and requires smartphone connectivity. As always however, we do trust Google to come up with something exceptional and put its competitors to rest though! [ 9to5google ] ...
