State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, the state’s major political power broker, has emerged unscathed from last week’s slew of accusations that he whitewashed sexual harassment allegations against a prominent Democratic Assemblyman Vito J. Lopez. Even after a state ethics report criticized him for covering up allegations of sexual harassment against a powerful assemblyman, even after a prosecutor said his failure to act might have put other women at risk, even after a number of editorial boards called for his ouster, Mr. Silver is still standing strong. Silver enjoys unflagging loyalty in the Assembly because he gives free rein to Democrats, the Times reports. Ethics enforcement is lax and assembly seats remain safe thanks to Silver’s extensive networks and big campaign war chest. In return, Democrats, including Governor Andrew Cuomo, protect him in crises like these. This isn’t the first time a Scandal like this has been swept under the rug: Almost a decade ago, [Silver] was accused of mishandling accusations against one of his former top aides, J. Michael Boxley. The Assembly paid a $500,000 settlement in that case, and the two women who accused Mr. Boxley of assaults subsequently lent their support to one of Mr. Silver’s primary challengers in 2008. “It’s shocking that the members of the Assembly are willing to gi ...

NBC Action News: Two new lawsuits have been filed against a Kansas City priest convicted of taking lewd photographs and the officials who oversaw him. Important for the growing number of Kansas City social media paparazzi . . . A little but longstanding Missouri law forbids surreptitious underwear pictures of anyone. So, remember that photos that regularly appear on celebrity tabloid sites are a bit more dangerous in Kansas City . . . Even though most local club hotties seemingly want their underwear on display as if they were X-Tina during her glory days. Anyhoo . . . Excerpt from The SNAP Presser . . . "These two new civil lawsuits are believed to be the sixth and seventh civil lawsuit involving Fr. Shawn F. Ratigan, whose crimes led to the first-ever criminal prosecution of a US Catholic bishop on charges of failing to report suspected child Sex crimes to law enforcement. "The suits are believed to be among only a handful to use a little-known and rarely-used 2007 Missouri state law that makes it illegal to take pictures of people with their underwear showing without their consent (regardless of t heir age). That’s because while Ratigan took many photos that were child porn, he took many more that SNAP says were “illegal, hur ...

Source: www.techeye.net --- Monday, May 20, 2013
Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has revealed some instant messages from Britain's espionage agency, GCHQ, which discuss the possibility of the Swedish Sex Scandal being a "fit-up". Julian Assange is wanted for questioning over allegations of sexual assault in Sweden. He believes it is part of a ploy that would ultimately see him extradited to the United States, where he could be detained. Assange, who is essentially on house arrest in London's Ecuadorian embassy, talked about the messages on a Spanish TV programme, Salvados, on Sunday. He and his team have been applying for information from GCHQ, the British intelligence and espionage agency, and while denied access to classified documents, some instant messages about Assange were unclassified. The agency is exempt from Freedom of Information requests, however, there are provisions in the data protection act that allow people to retrieve personal information held on them. Assange mentioned a message from September last year. Reading to the interviewer, Assange claimed it said: "They are trying to arrest him on suspicion of XYZ, it is definitely a fit-up, their timings are too convenient right after Cablegate". Cablegate refers to Wikileaks' enormous dumping of diplomatic cables, which embarrassed the United States in particular and made Assange himself a target for the political establishment. Senior heads of state have since labelled him a terrorist and even called for his dea ...

(AP) — Democratic New York City Assemblyman Vito Lopez announced on Friday that he will resign from his post -- amid a sexual harassment Scandal -- and run for New York City council. Lopez said he will step down on June 20. Lopez has been under growing pressure after it was revealed the state secretly paid women $103,000 to settle sexual harassment claims against the one-time Brooklyn power broker. Two blistering reports this week, from a special prosecutor and the state's Joint Commission on Public Ethics, painted an ugly picture of unwanted comments and contact from the 71-year-old assemblyman. He does not currently face any criminal charges. The ethics report claimed Lopez subjected young female staffers to inappropriate touching and comments about their bodies. It claims they also were forced to write letters to him about how much they loved their jobs. ©2013 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
