Theyre all from the same school, the Buddy Ryan defense, so there are a lot of similarities between what Gregg was running and what Rob is bringing, Jenkins said. New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan admitted that he "got my feelings hurt" when he was fired by the Dallas Cowboys earlier this offseason. But he obviously feels like he landed on his feet, saying he hasn't felt this good since he worked under Bill Belichick with the New England Patriots early in his career. "It's awesome. I got lucky," Ryan said in his first interview session with the New Orleans media Thursday. "I'm fortunate enough to be with a great program like the Saints, led by Sean Payton. I haven't felt this way since I was in New England with Bill Belichick. So I'm working for the best and I hope to be a small part of our success." Ryan's media session was brief following Thursday's OTA practice. So he didn't get too deep into many subjects. But he did touch on his ouster in Dallas, saying it helps him have the same kind of chip on his shoulder that the Saints defensive players and coaches have after their historically bad season in 2012. Matthew Emmons – USA TODAY SPORTS The Dallas Cowboys came close again in 2012-13, missing the playoffs in heartbreaking fashion with another Week 17 divisional loss. Then, in typical Cowboys fashion, Dallas elected to inexplicably fire Rob Ryan after he rebuilt an atrocious defense while keeping head coach Jason Garrett after he derailed a talented offense. It’s never good when you can point to several games each year and blame the head coach. Whether as blatant as choosing not to call timeouts on a final drive in Baltimore Week Six, or as simple as abandoning the run each week, Garrett’s coaching blunders crippled the Cowboys last season. Dallas’ 118 penalties can be traced back to Garret and his inability to prepare his team against an injured Washington Redskins team in Week 17; this is unforgivable. While many of his errors are, right or wrong, passed onto Tony Romo , it’s amazing that Garrett kept his job. Equally amazing is that the Cowboys think it is a good idea to fire a talented defensive coordinator that rebuilt a horrible secondary, and led a stingy 3-4 defense without NFL -caliber middle linebackers. Rob Ryan was the best thing to happen to the Dallas Cowboys last season. He vastly improved a bad defense, transforming a tremendous liability into a passable sort of mediocrity, which kept the Cowboys in games while the offense stumbled. I kept thinking to myself who will be our starting OLB's and as much as I love tez and his freak potential of being 6"4 260 and running a 4.9 galette and butler will be the starters which is good and everything but Tez is very good at getting to the QB especially from the interior with his nice bull rush. It got me thinking how to get them all on the field at the same time. Then I remembered not only does Rob Ryan run the 1-5-5 psycho but we have a nice personel for it. The formation is where u have 1 NT, 5 linebackers, and 5 DB's. Tez wold be perfect as the 3rd ILB blitzing the QB from a stand up position. I think we might see this used a lot.
